Job Description

The CDL Driver is responsible for safely transporting guests between Glacier Bay Lodge and key arrival/departure points, including the airport and ferry terminal. This role is critical in providing a welcoming first impression and ensuring guests enjoy a safe, comfortable, and reliable shuttle experience. Drivers must demonstrate professionalism, excellent customer service, and adherence to all safety and transportation regulations. 

About Glacier Bay Lodge & Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve:  

Ever wish you had more daylight hours? With 18 hours of daylight during the summer, recreation and sightseeing opportunities are never-ending! Glacier Bay Lodge is a small 50-room lodge nestled in between coastal mountains, incredible fjords, and Alaska's Inside Passage and is a remote wilderness experience you don't want to miss. The only way to travel to us is by air or sea from Juneau to the friendly little town of Gustavus, your Gateway to Glacier Bay National Park & Preserve.  

Enjoy everything this remote park has to offer by becoming a part of our small family of around 60 employees for the summer of a lifetime!  

This is a seasonal role with ideal dates of May 14 - September 10, 2026.

Employees are responsible for knowing the environmental aspects and associated impacts of their job position.  Job specific Environmental Aspects and Impacts will be communicated by Dept. Managers during EMS training.

Job Responsibilities

Transportation & Safety 

  • Safely operate lodge shuttle vehicles in compliance with all federal, state, and local traffic laws. 
  • Transport guests and employees between Glacier Bay Lodge, the airport, and ferry terminal according to established schedules. 
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles to ensure safety and functionality. 
  • Maintain accurate mileage, fuel, and trip logs. 
  • Report any mechanical issues or safety concerns promptly to management. 

Guest Service 

  • Provide a warm, professional, and courteous experience for all passengers. 
  • Assist guests with luggage, mobility needs, and boarding as required. 
  • Share basic information about Glacier Bay Lodge and the surrounding area to enhance guest experience. 
  • Handle guest questions or concerns with professionalism, escalating issues when necessary. 

Operational Support 

  • Track and report fuel usage for shuttle vehicles. 
  • Support transportation logistics by adhering to daily schedules and communicating delays or changes. 
  • Assist with coordination of guest arrivals and departures to ensure smooth lodge operations. 
  • Maintain cleanliness of shuttle vehicles, both interior and exterior. 

Compliance & Standards 

  • Adhere to company policies, safety procedures, and environmental guidelines. 
  • Maintain a valid CDL license with passenger endorsement and comply with all DOT requirements. 
  • Participate in ongoing training and safety meetings as required.

Qualifications

Required Skills & Experience 

  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no airbrake restrictions. 
  • Minimum of 23 years of age
  • 1 year of verifiable CDL driving experience.
  • No suspension of driving privileges for moving violations in the past 3 years
  • Ability to pass DOT physical and drug screening. 
  • Prior experience in passenger transportation, hospitality, or tourism preferred. 
  • Strong customer service skills and professional demeanor. 
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
