Job description

ZIP RIDER COURSE OPERATOR

Reports to: Excursions Supervisor

Category: Seasonal (April - September in Hoonah, Alaska)

Salary Range: Seasonal $18.00 plus potential bonus


Summary:

Zip Rider Operator is to ensure that riders are safely prepared to participate in the world’s largest Zip Rider. Icy Strait Point’s Zip Rider is 1,400’ high, over a mile long, moves at speeds up to 60mph and takes approximately 90 seconds from top to bottom. It’s a rush! There is the “top tower,” where guests arrive by means of a scenic Gondola ride before being securely strapped into the harness seat by you, the operator, and there is the “bottom tower” where guests are unstrapped by you, the operator. Ziprider team members will report to the supervisor as well as two team leads.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct all activities and decisions according to Icy Strait Point’s guiding principles: BAP: Best, Authentic, Profitable
  • Always keep safety foremost in your mind and actions when on the job.
  • Duties & Responsibilities specific to the Zip Line
  • Securely strap guests into harness seat at start of ride and out of harness seat at end of ride.
  • Use a two-check process at the top tower. One person to secure and one to double check secure of guest.
  • From “bottom tower” at end of ride, return harnesses to “top tower.”
  • From “top tower” retrieve returned harnesses for start of next ride.
  • Learn and impart knowledge to guests of all that Icy Strait Point has to offer, including history, tours, food and beverage venues, retail products and venues.
  • Participate in all required training and safety meetings
  • Maintain a current First Aid/CPR certification
  • Other duties as assigned


Requirements:

  • Adequate knowledge or willingness to learn about Tlingit culture
  • Must be able to learn a Tlingit Introduction
  • Knowledge of the local area (marine life, plants, animals, birds)
  • Must have good verbal communication; patient and able to lead groups of kids as well as adults
  • Strong commitment to Safety
  • Capable of moderate physical activity including standing, walking, reaching climbing, and lifting more than 40lbs; able to visually identify safety hazards
  • This is a safety sensitive position that is subject to drug testing
  • Must be 18 years of age or older for the top tower and 16 years of age for the bottom tower.


Physical Requirements & Work Environment:

  • Able to lift 40 pounds, stand for extended periods, and walk 5+ miles daily
  • Able to lift arms and push and pull a 10-foot pool extended to engage return system.
  • Able to lift arms to grab the harness and pull harness retrieval lines.
  • Willing to live in a remote, rural community
  • Comfortable traveling by small plane or ferry to and from a remote setting
  • Able to walk and drive on gravel roads in inclement weather
  • Working long days, sometimes including 10+ hour shifts.
  • Must be comfortable with heights.
