What is Pangaea?

Pangaea was a supercontinent that existed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras, approximately 335 to 175 million years ago. It formed by the gradual coming together of earlier continental landmasses and later began to break apart due to plate tectonics, eventually forming the continents we know today. The concept of Pangaea helps scientists understand continental drift, plate tectonics, and the historical distribution of plants and animals across the globe.
