Job description

Work Where the Fun Happens!
As a Summer Day Camp Counselor at the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows (BGCTM), you'll have the opportunity to make a positive impact in the lives of children while enjoying a fun and fulfilling summer job. You'll work with kids on a variety of activities, including art projects, sports, fitness, field trips, and more - helping them to develop new skills, build confidence, and make new friends.
Our Mission: To enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to reach their full potential as caring, productive, responsible citizens.
These are some of the additional things you will do as a Summer Day Camp Counselor.
As a counselor, you'll be responsible for creating a safe and engaging environment for children, planning and leading activities, and serving as a positive role model and mentor. You'll also have the chance to take the kids on exciting field trips, exploring the community, and introducing them to new experiences.
One of the best things about working as a Summer Day Camp Counselor at the Boys & Girls Club is that you'll have your nights and weekends free to enjoy your own summer adventures. Plus, you'll get paid to make a difference in the lives of kids and families in your community.
Whether you're a college student with a passion for education or youth development, or a high school student looking for a fun and meaningful summer job, the Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is the perfect place to build your skills, make new connections, and have a positive impact.
In exchange, BGCTM offers extensive benefits:
  • Part-time employees are enrolled in Nivati - a free mental health and wellbeing program.
  • When we say we nurture great connections and build great futures, we don't just mean for our members; as an employee of BGCTM, you'll strengthen your future as well through annual tuition reimbursement.
  • Plus, part-time employees are eligible for PTO.
  • Pay starts at $14.50 an hour.

This is what your schedule could look like:
  • This role is part-time. We always aim for consistent schedules for our staff to promote a life-work balance.
  • Shifts are:
    • 7:00 AM - 1:00 PM
    • 8:00 AM - 2:00 PM
    • 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM
    • 12:00 PM - 6:00 PM
  • We have many locations where we provide summer programs across the Fernley area.

We have great staff who can teach you skills on the job, but some traits will make you more successful as a Summer Day Camp Counselor:
  • You are a fun, energetic, and excited individual
  • You want to pursue a career in education and childcare, such as HDFS, CDA, Education, Counseling, etc.
  • You have a passion for building a better community
  • You have experience working with, teaching, nurturing, and/or mentoring children
  • You have the ability to communicate and cooperate with children, other staff, and parents
  • Minimum of 17 years or older

As part of our commitment to child and member safety, there are some additional steps that all hires will be asked to complete:
  • You will need to provide 3 references. These references should be professional references if you have work experience. If you don't have work experience, these references can be any non-family member over the age of 18 who can speak to your character and professionalism.
  • You will also be asked to complete a drug screen for any illegal substances, a background check, and fingerprinting.

We have a commitment to being great.
At Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows, you'll have the opportunity to lead a great life, inspired by GREAT values: Generous, Respectful, Encouraging, Accountability, and Trustworthy. Boys & Girls Club of Truckee Meadows is committed to practicing those values to create places where every kid feels safe and connected-a place to belong and a place to become-and a fun, positive work environment where you can be sure you're making a difference.
