Job description

Primary Job Functions: The school groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining and caring for the outdoor areas of a school campus, ensuring that the environment is safe, clean, and aesthetically pleasing. While completing these duties, good relationships should be maintained with the warehouse department, corporation personnel and the community, as well as projecting genuine care and concern for all students. This position requires consistent attendance and punctuality as well as the ability to handle confidential information.
 

Salary Lane:  Hourly pay starting at $23.00.

Assigned Workday Calendar:  260/261 days (Year-Round)

Status:  Full-Time (40 Hours per Week)

Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 7:00am 3:30pm

Benefits:  Full-time positions are eligible for medical, dental insurance as well as supplemental benefits such as vision, life insurance, disability, etc. Eligible for PERF Retirement.

Qualifications:

  • Education: A high school education or equivalent is required.
  • Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge and skills in the operation of tractors, mowers, weed eaters, snow blowers and other related equipment.  Must have a knowledge of small engines. Must be willing to be on call outside of work hours in case of facilities emergency. Physical stamina is required to perform manual labor in various weather conditions.
  • Experience: At least one year in this field or related field preferred.
  • Certification: Must possess a valid driver's license.
  • Other: Ability to maintain a positive relationship with pupils, staff, parents, and the community.

Essential Functions:

  • Cut and trim all grass (normally once a week April through October and twice a week on football fields).
  • Spray for weeds.
  • Maintain streets, roads, and grounds.
  • Pain curbs, gates, and posts.
  • Sprinkle where automatic sprinklers do not reach, and hand sprinklers must be used.
  • Drag and roll baseball diamonds.
  • Empty trash barrels from all buildings and athletic fields.
  • Clean trash from grounds and fence rows.
  • Plow snow and spread sand and salt on roads.
  • Perform minor repair and preventive maintenance on tractors and mowers.
  • Change filter media on air handlers and room units.
  • Have knowledge of various types of turf fertilizers and herbicides and the ability to apply them.
  • Be able to direct assistants and/or helpers in planning and completing assignments.
  • Follow-up on assistants and/or helpers' work.
  • Assists buildings in their repair and maintenance of their grounds-keeping equipment.
  • Provide fuel to area buildings.
  • Have knowledge concerning the mixing of fuels:
    • Pre-mix 2 cycle fuel.
    • Winterize diesel fuel.
  • Participate in professional development, as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Physical Demands:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, and use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance, vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus.
