Job Title: Feed Mixer

Hours/Week: 40 hours per week with more hours required as needed

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Reports To: Feed Operations Supervisor


Job Objective

The Feed Mixer Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining equipment to mix and prepare feed and related products for livestock, ensuring proper ingredient blending, monitoring machinery, and adhering to safety and quality standards. This position will perform tasks related to feed production including quality control, ingredient and feed processing, manufacturing and load out, ingredient receiving and storage, equipment maintenance, and general housekeeping. 


The incumbent will be expected to assist other locations and departments as assigned by management. Will communicate availability regularly and assist with projects as needed. 


Incumbent maintains efficiency in a manner that will optimize the cooperative's market share and savings, improve the cooperative's efficiency, help achieve the cooperative's mission and goals, and result in outstanding customer service.


This position will maintain a positive attitude that promotes teamwork within the location, as well as within the cooperative and upholds a favorable image of Five Star Cooperative at all times.


Job Summary and Primary Duties

  • Organizes daily schedule of required local mix to expedite custom mixing and grinding
  • Operates machinery used in the feed mixing and production process
  • Dumps bags or presses buttons on control panel to transfer individual ingredients from separate bins to batch scale hopper until specified weight of each ingredient is obtained. Weighs additives like minerals and vitamins and dumps them into the hopper. Starts machine to mix ingredients, and starts elevator conveyors to transfer feed to storage tank
  • Maintains quality of mixes above standards set by Five Star and the local mixing program
  • Accounts for each mix or other service provided by writing job, sales, or transfer tickets to ensure accurate inventory control
  • Reports inventory items which should be placed on order
  • Prepare and file department records as needed
  • Cleans and lubricates equipment, maintains equipment on a regular schedule to avoid breakdowns and anticipates and plans for major overhauls requiring shutdowns
  • Observes equipment operations for malfunctions
  • Collects samples of ingredients and/or finished product for laboratory testing
  • Understands and ensures compliance with all transportation, environmental, and feed production regulations and policies
  • Adhere to all laws and company policies associated with safety, health and environmental practices. Take immediate and appropriate actions to remedy hazards as they are identified. Help provide solutions to safety, health and environmental challenges.
  • Works directly with customers, developing excellent customer relations 
  • Enforce and abide by all cooperative policies
  • Enforce and uphold the cooperative's credit policy
  • Good communication with all employees and customers

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or equivalent

Job Related Skills: Strong written and verbal communications skills necessary
