Job Description
To serve as a police officer whose primary responsibility is to serve as a special enforcement officer in and around state owned buildings, institutions, and grounds in the State of Indiana. To meet the special policing needs of the public and respective governmental agencies in and around the government facilities in Indiana.
Job Duties
• Patrol to ensure security of White River State Park facilities.
• Patrol to ensure security of buildings, grounds and residents against fire, disturbances, and vandalism.
• Respond to alarms.
• Receive and investigate complaints from the public.
• Make records indicating the progress of ongoing investigations.
• Keep supervisor aware of investigations and activities.
• Maintain daily activity records.
• Investigate vehicle crashes.
• Perform a wide variety of courtesy services.
• Maintain liaison with other federal, state, county and municipal agencies.
• Attempt to locate persons for the delivery of emergency information.
• Direct and control traffic as necessary.
• Render first aid to persons until medical help arrives.
• Testify in criminal or civil proceedings as necessary.
• Identify, collect and submit evidence in compliance with department standard operating procedures.
• If selected, serve as a training officer.
• Perform other duties as required.
Job Qualifications
BASIC ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
• Must be a United States Citizen.
• Must be at least 21 years of age when appointed as a police employee (November 5, 2026).
• Have vision correctable to 20/50.
• Possess a High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) or (HSE).
• Must possess a valid Indiana driver's license.
LATERAL REQUIREMENT:
• Must be a current (part-time or full-time) or retired Tier I or Tier II (Indiana) certified law enforcement officer, having received your certification.
- A retirement program is available through Indiana Public Retirement System (INPRS)
- Life Insurance coverage is available through American United Life at nominal rates.
- Group Hospitalization with medical insurance is available to those who desire this type of protection, with a portion of the premium paid by the State of Indiana.
- Uniform, ordnance, and other equipment are furnished by the Department.
- Police employees receive 12 work days annual vacation leave with pay. Additional days are granted after 5, 10, and 20 years of service to a maximum of 25 days annually.
