Position Overview

Kiewit Architecture & Engineering (KAE) is seeking an experienced A/E Engineering Project Manager to lead the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary building projects across a diverse portfolio including Federal & Government, Nuclear, Healthcare, Mission Critical, Sports Facilities & Stadiums, Transit & Aviation, and Education facilities.

This role is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of engineering and architectural design efforts-from early concept through construction support-while leading integrated teams of engineers, architects, and technical specialists. The ideal candidate brings a strong background in building systems design, proven leadership of multi-discipline teams, and the ability to deliver high-quality projects in fast-paced, client-driven environments.

Our combined staff of more than 1,300 engineers and design professionals have expertise that spans all major engineering disciplines to serve the industrial, transportation, power, water/wastewater, mining, building, and oil, gas & chemical markets. Our rapidly growing Industrial and Water Engineering team, which includes process, mechanical, electrical, controls, structural, architectural, geotechnical, and civil disciplines, is a multi-faceted and leading-edge division of Kiewit with best-in-class technical expertise focused on EPC (Engineer Procure Construct) and design-build delivery of industrial projects in markets such as Food & Beverage, Mineral Processing, Renewable Fuels, Pulp and Paper, Steel & Aluminum, Industrial Buildings, and Industrial Energy, Water and Utilities.

This position can be based out of locations such as Lenexa, KS; Denver, CO; Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX.

Responsibilities

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Lead multi-disciplinary design teams (mechanical, electrical, structural, architecture, civil, and specialty disciplines) on complex building projects.
  • Manage projects through all phases: concept, schematic design, design development, construction documents, and construction support.
  • Develop and maintain project execution plans, budgets, schedules, and resource allocations.
  • Ensure projects meet technical, quality, safety, constructability, and client expectations.

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, partners, and internal stakeholders.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with public and private sector clients, including government agencies and institutional owners.
  • Lead client meetings, presentations, and design reviews, ensuring alignment with project goals.

Technical & Design Oversight

  • Provide leadership and oversight on building systems integration, ensuring coordination across engineering and architecture disciplines.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and industry standards, including those relevant to specialized markets (e.g., healthcare, federal, aviation).
  • Drive innovative design solutions that improve efficiency, sustainability, and constructability.

Team Leadership & Collaboration

  • Lead and mentor engineering and architecture staff; promote a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with construction teams to ensure design-build excellence and seamless project execution.
  • Coordinate closely with estimating, procurement, construction operations, and field teams.

Business Development & Strategy Support

  • Support pursuit efforts including proposal development, scope definition, fee development, and interview presentations.
  • Contribute to market growth strategies across key sectors such as mission critical, healthcare, and infrastructure-related facilities.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance KAE's position in the buildings market.
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in engineering/design of building systems with progressive project leadership responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering and architecture teams.
  • Experience delivering projects in one or more of the following sectors:
    • Federal / Government
    • Healthcare
    • Mission Critical (Data Centers/Water/Wastewater)
    • Sports & Entertainment
    • Transit & Aviation
    • Education
    • Nuclear
  • Strong understanding of design-build delivery methods and integrated project delivery.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, schedules, and client relationships.

Preferred

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or Registered Architect (RA).
  • Experience working on large, complex Design-Build/EPC projects.
  • Experience in early project development and contract models such as Progressive Design Build (PDB) or Front-End Engineering Design (FEED)
  • Familiarity with BIM and digital design tools (e.g., Revit, Navisworks).
  • Experience working with or within construction organizations or contractor-led design environments.

Base Compensation: $152,000/yr - $160,000/yr
