Job description

Overview

This position provides operational support for the utilization of all FEC owned & controlled transportation equipment, foreign railroad owned and privately owned assets moving on the FEC rail network. Scope of responsibilities to include operational recommendation on intermodal equipment to minimize asset and transportation expenses, ongoing monitoring equipment dwell and any required repositioning of equipment to meet projected demand. Additional responsibilities include the daily reporting of intermodal ramp operations including the management of FEC and privately owned chassis, terminal parking, and tracking of the intermodal units throughout the FEC's southeast footprint.

Responsibilities
  • Closely manage the number of carload freight cars online to ensure adequate supply is available to meet projected demand at minimum cost.
  • Work with Transportation to reposition freight cars as needed to maximize car utilization.
  • Coordinate with Sales on customer requirements for FEC equipment placed in assigned pools.
  • Monitor equipment out of service and work with Mechanical to develop plans to ensure needed equipment is returned to service in a timely manner.
  • Work with Network Operations to ensure train plan provides sufficient capacity to minimize dwell in yards and at customer locations.
  • Work with team of Fleet Coordinators to ensure conveying cars and intermodal equipment is distributed efficiently across the network to meet projected demand levels.
  • Work hand and hand with Chassis Coordinator position to ensure the utilization of the FEC and private chassis inventory in FEC's Ft Lauderdale and Hialeah terminals is maximized.
  • Contributes to team effort by accomplishing other related tasks as needed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree preferred
  • 3 years of Railroad or Trucking Industry Experience
  • Strong knowledge of Railroad and Terminal Operations
  • Business knowledge of Intermodal Terminal Operations and Trucking Operations
  • Working knowledge of the following systems and technologies: GE's Transportation Management System, RMI's Oasis Terminal Operation System, SAS, Query, Microsoft Products, including Word, Excel
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Good communication skills and ability to work as team player
  • Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and competing priorities
  • Excellent writing, oral, and presentation skills
  • Requires the ability to effectively communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills
  • Analytical skills
