The Haptic Engineering team develops innovative haptic solutions that are central to Apple’s products, including the iPhone and Apple Watch! The ultimate responsibility of this role is to enhance our understanding of complex physics, which includes building accurate FEA models that empower the design team to uncover design weaknesses during concept development, or identifying root cause to engineering failures when physical measurement is challenging.","responsibilities":"Prepare finite element models of haptics modules based on 3D CAD from the design team
Validate the design against appropriate loads, including but not limited to static loads, dynamic stresses, and thermal-mechanical stresses
Summarize the analysis results into high-quality reports and effectively communicate the findings to cross-functional partners
Provide design feedback to the design team based on analysis results
Own and drive experimental validation of the analysis results
Communicate multi-functionally and throughout the management structure on a regular basis
Manage and track multiple priorities within schedule requirements
Develop new simulation methods and workflows
Generate new intellectual property
Preferred Qualifications
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field
Project experience in consumer electronics products design
Design and/or research experience with haptic technologies
Experience with automating FEA model creation workflows
Experience with using AI tools to accelerate scripting
Proficiency with data analysis tools (JMP, MATLAB, Excel, etc)
High volume mass production experience
Experience in material modeling and digital image correlation
Experience with commercial preprocessing softwares such as Hypermesh, Simlab, and ANSA
Minimum Qualifications
BS and a minimum of 10 years relevant industry experience
Experience in Finite Element Analysis (FEA)
Familiar with Abaqus, ANSYS, COMSOL, or other FEA tools (Abaqus preferred)
Experience in analysis that involves non-linear materials and boundary conditions
Strong engineering fundamentals in solid mechanics, dynamics, and fracture mechanics
Proficiency with statistical data analysis and data visualization
Experience with 3D CAD (NX preferred)
Team-oriented with excellent written and verbal communication skills
Pay & Benefits
At Apple, base pay is one part of our total compensation package and is determined within a range. This provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role. The base pay range for this role is between $181,100 and $318,400, and your base pay will depend on your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.
Apple employees also have the opportunity to become an Apple shareholder through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs. Apple employees are eligible for discretionary restricted stock unit awards, and can purchase Apple stock at a discount if voluntarily participating in Apple's Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
