What is an FCL?

FCL stands for Full Container Load, which refers to the transportation of goods where an entire shipping container is used by a single shipper for their cargo. Jobs in FCL typically involve logistics coordination, freight forwarding, and supply chain management, ensuring that containers are efficiently packed, shipped, and delivered. Professionals in this area may work for shipping lines, logistics companies, or freight forwarders, handling tasks such as booking shipments, tracking containers, and managing documentation. FCL is a preferred method for businesses with large shipments, as it offers security, cost-effectiveness, and direct shipping routes.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an FCL coordinator?

To thrive as an FCL Coordinator, you need a solid understanding of international shipping procedures, logistics documentation, and freight regulations, often supported by experience in supply chain or logistics roles. Familiarity with transportation management systems (TMS), cargo tracking software, and customs clearance platforms is typically required. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are crucial soft skills for managing complex shipments and coordinating with various stakeholders. These skills ensure the efficient, timely, and compliant movement of containerized cargo across global supply chains.

How does an FCL coordinator typically collaborate with freight forwarders and shipping lines?

As an FCL coordinator, you will frequently liaise with freight forwarders, shipping lines, and internal logistics teams to manage the end-to-end process of container shipments. This collaboration includes negotiating booking slots, ensuring accurate documentation, tracking shipment status, and promptly resolving any issues such as delays or customs holds. You’ll also work closely with customer service and warehouse teams to ensure timely loading and unloading, making strong communication and organizational skills essential for success in this role.

  • Coordinate required site plans, permits, inspections, SWPPP setup, and ICRA/ILSM forms as applicable.
  • Plan construction activities from start to finish to support schedule, scope, budget, and quality goals.

Planning and Execution

  • Monitor project progress, costs, field conditions, and schedule impacts in partnership with the project team.
  • Complete accurate daily reports, logs, and progress photos.
  • Identify issues, discrepancies, and responsible parties, then help drive timely resolution.
  • Verify field measurements and coordinate corrective action when needed.

Team and Peer Relationships

  • Build strong working relationships with owners, building teams, foremen, subcontractors, and internal project partners.
  • Lead weekly construction meetings and daily subcontractor coordination discussions.
  • Communicate jobsite needs, expectations, schedules, and priorities clearly and consistently.

Safety

  • Maintain a clean, organized, and secure jobsite.
  • Enforce safety policies, PPE, fall protection, tenant safety, and building regulations.
  • Maintain construction barriers and complete client-required site walk-offs.

What We’re Looking For:

  • 5+ years of project supervision experience in industrial or large commercial construction environments
  • Extensive knowledge of scheduling, cost control, and safety procedures
  • OSHA 30 Hour Certification preferred

You'll Be Able To:

  • Maintain mobility on and around construction sites and inside the office.
  • Work in inclement weather and high-noise environments at times during site visits.
  • Perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, throughout all stages of construction.
  • Work at a desk or computer screen with keyboard for extended periods of time.
  • Work in a variety of physical positions, including sitting, standing, kneeling, squatting, walking, and driving.

What We Offer:
