Basic Function
Provides immediate response to catastrophic (CAT) storm events to investigate, evaluate, negotiate, review supplemental requests, and settle claim assignments involving homeowner, farm, and commercial risks, This position operates from an office setting utilizing virtual tools, and is not required to physically be at catastrophic events.
Principal Accountabilities
Accountabilities should reflect job functions requiring at least 5% of an incumbent's time commitment.
Essential Functions:

1. Provide immediate response to handle minor to moderate storm damage claims throughout the eight P/C states utilizing virtual inspection tools.
2. Accurately evaluate coverages, investigate and evaluate damages, issue payments and set reserves on homeowner, farm, and commercial policies according to Claims Best Practices and company guidelines.
3. Effectively negotiate with client/members and contractors in a professional manner to attain a fair settlement.
4. Document investigations, evaluations, recommendations, and plans of action with results focused on developing a defendable claim file.
5. Seek input from the property claims managers, engineers, reinsurers, legal counsel, and casualty consultants as required.
6. During storm events review estimates from field adjusters, and complete handling of the claim through conclusion.
7. Develop and maintain plans with the CAT Claims Manager to improve the performance of the Company's storm claim handling processes.
8. During non-storm times, may assist absent property staff with handling supplemental and replacement cost claims on non-storm claims.
Non-Essential Functions:
Perform other job-related duties or special projects as assigned.
Progress towards industry education expected (Farm Bureau Catastrophe Adjuster designation).
Progress towards AIC designation.
Qualifications/Know-How
1. College degree preferred or equivalent work experience required plus one year relevant experience.
2. Experience in construction, estimating, and estimating systems involved in the handling of property claims preferred.
3. Excellent oral and written communication, including the ability to negotiate effectively.
4. Possesses excellent interpersonal and organizational skills and analytical ability.
5. Demonstrates basic computer proficiency, including knowledge of Microsoft Office.
6. Maintains on-call availability
7. Ability to read, write and speak the English language, bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Nature & Scope
The Property/Casualty Claims Department is responsible for settling property and casualty claims promptly and equitably from the standpoint of the claimant/insured as well as Farm Bureau. This department settles claims within eight states for numerous types of insurance policies: Automobile, Squire, Fire, Homeowner, Comprehensive Personal Liability, Workers Compensation, etc. Claim losses demand a larger share of the premium dollar than any other Farm Bureau expense. Therefore, it is important that the department operates at high performance level to help ensure that the Company remains competitive.
The Catastrophe Claims Representative Inside is responsible for immediate response to catastrophic (CAT) storm events to investigate, evaluate, and negotiate claim assignments involving homeowner, farm, and commercial risks from an in-office location.
Internal contacts include claims staff and underwriters. External contacts include agents, agency office personnel, attorneys, insureds, claimants, other carrier personnel, independent adjusters, claim-related vendors and legal staff.
