This role will serve as the Manufacturing Engineer fastening subject matter expert and will provide support to all PTME program teams and Powertrain plants when required.ย  The selected candidate will assist program teams in deploying fastening equipment on new programs, create and maintain procedures and documentation, conduct training activities, and develop new fastening techniques and technologies.

What you'll do...

Fastening Equipment Deployment

  • Develop and review fastening system EVPs for new programs
  • Confirm fastening system adherence to core checklists and standards
  • Review and recommend fastening parameters and error proofing methods
  • Support program teams with developing FMA documentation as it applies to fastening processes

Fastening Processes and Procedures

  • Create and maintain Fastening Single Point Lessons
  • Lead/support Fastening Forum
  • Lead/support Fastening Engineering Meeting
  • Conduct Lab Analysis (Ultrasound, Residual Torque, Elongation) to validate joint design and fastening system parameters
  • Use data analysis tools (Qualityworx, TNET 8, AI/Machine Learning) to identify root causes of fastening quality issues.

ย Fastening Theory and Training

  • Conduct internal training to improve the fastening skill set of the process and controls engineering teams
  • Develop appropriate fastening reference materials

Equipment & Technology Training

  • Work with fastening system vendors to develop appropriate training materials for operating and maintaining their equipment.

Additionally, the Fastening SME will work with the Fastening Technical Specialist to develop, improve and maintain standards, specifications and requirements.

Fastening Equipment Deployment

  • Familiarity with Equipment Verification Plans, particularly fastening EVPs.
  • Familiarity with safety requirements as they pertain to manual fastening operations
  • Familiarity with the workstation readiness process
  • Familiarity with FMA documentation
  • Familiarity with error proofing validation methods

Fastening Processes and Procedures

  • Extensive knowledge of statistical methods
  • Familiarity with data collection and analysis tools like Sciemetrics ES, Studio or Dashboard and Toolsnet
  • Knowledge of joint evaluation methods (ultrasound, pressure mapping and tensile testing)

Fastening Theoryย 

  • Understanding of the behavior of fasteners in service
  • Understanding of the effect of tightening beyond yield
  • Understanding of elastic interaction concepts
  • Understanding of fastener finish coatings and their impact on joint performance

Equipment Technology

  • Ability to configure and write programs in the Atlas Copco fastening ecosystem (PF Flex, PF 4000, PF 6000, and ST Wrench)
  • Ability to configure and write programs in the Bosch fastening ecosystem (BS350/BS310/Ergo Spin)

This position is a salary grade 7 - salary grade 8 and ranges from $86,600 - $166,200.ย  ย  ย 

Final determination of salary grade will be based on candidate's skills and experience, and base salary will be set within the applicable range according to job scope, responsibility and competitive market value.
