Description
Belstra Group Farms is a pig production organization with over 20 swine farm facilities located in Northwest Indiana. Belstra is in search of individuals to fill full-time Sow Farm Associate positions. Belstra Group Farms is committed to producing the highest quality of pigs. This individual is responsible for the daily care, health, and maintenance of all animals at the designated farm. The individual member must work in compliance with all the company policies, local, state, and federal policies, laws, and regulations.
Job Duties and Responsibilities (included but not limited to):
  • Feeding Sows and Gilts
  • Observing animals for signs of illness and giving medication when necessary
  • Assist with treatments, vaccinations, and care of pigs
  • Caring for and handling sows and piglets
  • Monitor and assist sows during farrowing (birthing) process
  • Learn to safely/properly move different sizes of pigs to different barns
  • Performing AI (artificial insemination) or other breeding duties
  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the farm by power washing designated areas
  • Following the Belstra Group Farms Animal Welfare Policy and proper PPE safety guidelines
  • Showing leadership and cooperation with the rest of the farm staff

Requirements
Skills and Requirements (included but not limited to):
  • Analytical skills to monitor and assess the health of the herd
  • Interpersonal skills to effectively work with other team members
  • Must be able to tolerate blood, animal dander, manure, dust, and frequently noisy conditions.
  • This position requires one who is multi-task oriented
  • Must have a method of transportation to get to work
  • Must be able to print and/ or write legibly

Physical Demands:
  • Stand, walk, and be on your feet 8 to 10 hours per day.
  • Frequently bend, reach, squat, and kneel.
  • Frequently use one or both hands/arms to grasp or pull. (Employee uses power washer with 3000 psi force and 5 gallons per minute flow.)
  • Frequently lift objects weighing 3 to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional bending while pulling and/or lifting objects weighing up to 50 pounds, or requiring up to 50 pounds of force to move.
  • Work in different environments (dust, heat, cold)

Education and Experience:
  • High school diploma or G.E.D
  • Previous pig production experience is plus, but not required
