Fall Line information

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fall Line (not a recognized professional job title), and why are they important?

The title 'Fall Line' does not correspond to a real-world professional occupation, so there are no specific skills, qualifications, or requirements associated with it. If you intended a different job title, please clarify for a detailed and accurate response.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals working on fall line projects in civil engineering?

Professionals working on fall line projects in civil engineering often encounter unique challenges such as managing diverse soil conditions, dealing with rapid elevation changes, and mitigating erosion risks. Coordination across multidisciplinary teams is essential, as projects may involve geologists, hydrologists, and environmental specialists to ensure stability and sustainability. Additionally, fall line areas frequently require careful planning to balance infrastructure development with environmental preservation, making adaptability and strong communication skills crucial for success.

What is a Fall Line in the context of geography and careers?

A Fall Line is a geographical term describing the area where an upland region meets a coastal plain, resulting in waterfalls or rapids as rivers descend. In geography-related careers, professionals may study Fall Lines to understand their impact on settlement patterns, transportation, and urban development, as these areas often became sites for cities and mills due to water power. The term is not typically a job title itself, but may refer to roles in geology, geography, environmental science, or urban planning that focus on these regions.

At Burton, we are a purpose-led brand rooted in snowboarding and the outdoors. We fight for the future of our people, planet, and sport. We aim to maximize our positive social impact and minimize our negative environmental impact while delivering high-quality performance products.
As a global leader in snowboarding, we're committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion for the long-term health of our company, sport, and community. Through these efforts, we aim to make snowboarding and the outdoors accessible to all.
The Breakdown:
This role sits within the North American Softgoods merchandising team, working closely with the Senior In-Market Merchandiser to help bring our product line to life across all commerce channels. Day-to-day, you'll keep our product data clean and current, manage the sample lifecycle through key sell-in moments, and support the showroom and wholesale account showings that shape how our line lands in market. You'll also dig into weekly sell-through data and competitive activity, giving the team the ground-level view that informs how we react in season. It's a hands-on role with real ownership in a few key areas, especially around Fall Go To Market and the Denver showroom. If you're early in your merchandising career and want to learn the full arc of how a product line goes from strategy to shelf, this is a strong foundation.
What You Get to Do:
  • Immediate Priority
    • Cycle28 / Visual Merchandising Alignment: Assist in outlining the alignment process with Visual Merchandising, covering capacity planning, floor plans, and marketing, in coordination with the Sr. Softgoods Merchandiser.

  • Assortment & Data Management
    • Data Integrity: SKU Maintenance: Keep all regional SKUs accurate and up to date across In-Line, SMU, Quarterly Drops, Special Collections, Collaborations, and Regional Capsules; execute segmentation and pricing updates as needed.
    • Line Plan Support & Channel Segmentation: Help build and maintain NA line plans and Flow Calendars so product and launch timing stay in sync across DTC and Wholesale channels.
    • Flag Change/Drop/Add updates to Sales and Marketplace teams as they happen throughout Sell-In and Order seasons.
    • Manage ongoing in-season updates to product and channel segmentation.
    • MAP Compliance: Keep tabs on MAP compliance and price parity between the US and Canada; work with DTC and Wholesale to stay on top of the MAP calendar and related events.

  • Sample, Showroom & Wholesale Sell-In Coordination
    • Sample Management: Help manage samples from request through return, balancing Global Product Initiative needs, regional nuances, and tradeshow and travel requirements.
    • Coordinate shipping for seasonal samples across NA sales meetings, Go To Market events, and key account needs, including carryover sets.
    • Lead sample distribution during Fall GTM in coordination with the Sr. Softgoods Merchandiser (NA) and the NA Regional Sample Team.
    • Showroom Merchandising: Work with the Visual Merchandising team to set up regional showrooms that reflect the season's Key Communication stories and looks.
    • Showings: In coordination with the Sr. Softgoods Merchandiser, assist in organizing showings with key wholesale accounts out of the Denver showroom, including sample management, feedback organization and communication to global teams, and SMU coordination and follow-up.

  • Reporting & Market Intelligence
    • Weekly Sell-Through: Pull and format weekly Best Seller / Slow Mover reports across NA DTC and Wholesale channels.
    • Insight to Action: Work with Sr. Merch leads to build action from weekly data pulls.
    • Competitive Landscape: Conduct monthly shop-alongs (digital and physical) to report on competitive brand activity in the mountain-lifestyle space, using the established competitive tracking template and brand list provided by the Sr. Merchandiser.

  • Planning & Business Review
    • Pre-season forecast review: Assist in reviewing pre-season forecasts with category planners to ensure alignment with financial category goals.
    • Buy plan review: Assist lead merchant in reviewing categorical & item-level buy plan details that inform sell-in windows and product deliveries.
    • End-of-year / end-of-cycle business recaps: Assist with owned retail, ecommerce, wholesale, partner doors, and distributor performance summaries.
    • General administrative support: Meeting prep, document management, and operational support for the broader merchandising team.

What You'll Bring to The Team:
  • 1-3 years of merchandising, buying, or product-related experience.
  • Strong organizational and analytical skills with high attention to detail.
  • Effective communicator and collaborator across functions and regions.
  • Proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, and comfortable working with merchandising systems (PLM experience a plus).
  • Passion for the outdoor, lifestyle, and snowboard industries.
  • Curiosity and enthusiasm for products, consumer trends, and market dynamics.

How Your Success Will Be Measured:
  • Timeliness and accuracy of deliverables and reports.
  • The insights you bring to the table are specific and actionable, not just observations.
  • The team can count on you when it matters: sell-in prep, GTM crunch, assortment reviews, and pre-season planning cycles.
  • Cross-functional partners know what's going on because you told them.
