What are fall internships?

Fall internships are temporary work experiences that typically take place during the autumn academic semester, usually from late August or early September through December. They allow students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in their field of interest while balancing coursework. Fall internships can be part-time or full-time and may be paid or unpaid, depending on the employer. These opportunities help participants build professional skills, expand their networks, and enhance their resumes for future job searches.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in fall internships?

To thrive in Fall Internship roles, you generally need a strong academic background in a relevant field, a willingness to learn, and basic knowledge related to the industry. Familiarity with productivity tools such as Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, or industry-specific software may be required depending on the internship focus. Strong communication, time management, and teamwork skills help interns adapt quickly and contribute meaningfully to projects. These qualities enable interns to maximize their learning, make a positive impression, and potentially secure future opportunities.

What are some common challenges students face during fall internships and how can they overcome them?

Fall interns often juggle academic responsibilities alongside their internship commitments, which can create time management challenges. To overcome this, it's important to communicate clearly with both your academic advisors and your internship supervisor about your schedule and workload. Additionally, interns may encounter a steep learning curve as they adapt to professional expectations and new tasks. Seeking feedback, actively participating in team meetings, and taking initiative to ask questions can help you grow and make the most of your internship experience.

How late is too late to get a fall internship?

Fall internships typically have application deadlines from late summer to early fall, with most employers closing applications by August or September. Applying early increases your chances, as many internships fill quickly due to limited positions and competitive applicant pools.

When should you apply for a fall internship?

Airlink is looking for interns!

Want to join a dynamic team that connects the humanitarian and aviation sectors to mobilize aid and relief workers during disasters? Airlink is seeking fall 2026 interns to help advance our lifesaving mission, supporting work across all departments.

About Airlink

Airlink is a global humanitarian organization that connects the aviation and humanitarian sectors and multiplies their life-saving impact-building logistics solutions that accelerate disaster and crisis response, reduce costs, and equip communities with the right aid, at the right time so they can recover quickly. Airlink and its airline partners have transported over 15,000 passengers and 8,100 tons of cargo in support of a broad range of humanitarian initiatives that have provided aid to more than 80 million people. Airlink has saved our nonprofit partners more than $56 million in transport costs.

Airlink is offering paid internships this fall in the following key areas:

Programs: Be part of the team that coordinates the deployment of aid and responders to communities in crisis around the world. Help put together inspiring digital campaigns to individual and corporate donors, support grant-writing processes, or help us mobilize more aviation, humanitarian, and other private sector partners globally.

Communications: Support our storytelling, thought leadership, and brand elevation/positioning. Learn the inner workings of earned, paid, and social media planning, while helping analyze performance and engagement, test impact stories, and help create trending social media content.

Operations: Gain practical nonprofit management experience while supporting the daily operations of a global humanitarian organization. Support executive affairs, help plan Airlink events, and develop systems that enhance organizational efficiency and strengthen internal communication.

  • Interest and/or relevant coursework in international relations, communications, fundraising, and/or nonprofit management.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.

  • Service-oriented mindset and enthusiasm for supporting the team and taking on new initiatives.

  • Ability to balance tactical execution with long-term strategic thinking.

Preferred Skills & Personal Characteristics

  • Humanitarian and/or logistics experience.

  • Experience working in fast-paced, sensitive environments.

  • Ability to effectively communicate and work across teams.

  • Value transparency, empathy, and collaborative problem-solving.
