Job Description 

The General Manager is accountable to the Director of Fairway and is responsible for directing and managing his/her staff to provide a culture of hospitality and exceptional customer service no different than you find in a first class hotel or restaurant

Additional duties included but no limited to are increase sales, protect company assets, maintaining store conditions, presentations, customer relations, associates relations through proper controls such as sanitations, merchandising, payroll and record keeping.

Minimum Required Qualifications:

The minimum required qualifications for this position include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Possess excellent customer service skills
  • Enjoy working in a dynamic environment.
  • Have a flexible schedule, as some evenings and weekends are required
  • Specialty food marketplace experience is required (at least 1 year)
  • Ability to proficiently read, write, speak, analyze, interpret, and understand the English language.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.  Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to stand/walk for the duration of a scheduled shift.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or associates of organizations.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral or diagram form.  Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

  • Ability to stand, bend, twist, reach, push, pull and regularly lift 25 lbs., and occasionally lift 50 lbs.

  • Ability to tolerate dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.
  • Ability to work in varying temperatures.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.
  • Ability to work all assigned work schedules and comply with all time and attendance policies.

Essential Job Functions:

Performance of the essential functions of this position require the Associate to possess the minimum qualifications listed above. These functions include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Create a customer experience culture throughout the store
  • Train/coach associates to demonstrate customer experience behaviors
  • Create a team atmosphere with merchandising and operations staff to individualize a store merchandising and sales plan to increase sales
  • Create a positive image within the community through community events
  • Train/cross associates to maximize career opportunities within store and company
  • Maintains store conditions per Fairway standards to improve profitability
  • Develops and maintains a team concept to improve associates morale, communications and ultimately working conditions
  • Maximizes stores profits and gross profit margins
  • Maintains customer experience levels according to company standards
  • Implement operational standards
  • Complies with company and governmental sanitations standards
  • Ensures proper inventory levels and controls
  • Establish and maintain a working relationship with all support staff and supervisors
  • Manages the recruitment, development, training and counseling of all associates
  • Manages others and adhere to company human resources and personnel policies as well as state and federal laws.
  • Develops and execute merchandising plan weekly to mirror company advertising themes and programs
  • Maintains an ongoing awareness of competitive activity in the immediate marketing area
  • Demonstrate and support a high level of integrity
  • Ensure proper usage compliance and handling of all supplies
  • Ensures proper maintenance and safe use of equipment
  • Establish community involvement.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Manages about eight subordinate team leads who supervise a total of 45-70 associates in the store.  IS responsible for the overall directions, coordination and evaluation of respective store.  Also directly supervises 45-70 non-supervisory associates.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training associates; planning, assigning, and directing work appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining associates; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Educations and/or Experience

Bachelor's degree (B.A) from four-year College or university; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
