Position Summary

The Deli & Bakery Manager is responsible for leading one of the most important departments within Save More Marketplace. This role oversees all aspects of our scratch-made deli and bakery operations, including food production, merchandising, customer service, food safety, financial performance, inventory management, and team development.

We prepare many of our products from scratch and are committed to delivering an exceptional customer experience every day. The Deli & Bakery Manager is expected to foster a culture of pride, accountability, and continuous improvement while leading by example.

Essential ResponsibilitiesLeadership
  • Lead, coach, and develop all deli and bakery associates.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, train, and retain high-performing team members.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing coaching and accountability.
  • Build a positive, team-oriented culture focused on customer service and operational excellence.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels and ensure associates are properly trained.
Food Production
  • Oversee all scratch-made deli and bakery production.
  • Ensure products are prepared consistently using approved recipes and production standards.
  • Maintain the highest standards of freshness, quality, and presentation.
  • Plan daily production to maximize sales while minimizing waste.
  • Develop seasonal products, new recipes, and merchandising opportunities.
Merchandising
  • Maintain attractive, full, clean, and well-merchandised service cases and displays throughout the day.
  • Execute promotional programs and seasonal merchandising plans.
  • Ensure all products are properly labeled, priced, rotated, and presented.
  • Build displays that drive impulse purchases and showcase fresh, handcrafted products.
Customer Service
  • Deliver exceptional customer service with every interaction.
  • Resolve customer concerns promptly and professionally.
  • Coordinate special orders and catering requests with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Build relationships with customers and create a welcoming shopping experience.
Food Safety & Sanitation
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local food safety regulations.
  • Maintain strict adherence to HACCP procedures, temperature logs, sanitation standards, and cleaning schedules.
  • Ensure the department remains inspection-ready at all times.
  • Promote safe food handling practices throughout the department.
Financial Management
  • Manage department sales, gross profit, labor, shrink, and operating expenses.
  • Analyze department performance and develop action plans to improve results.
  • Meet or exceed departmental sales and profitability goals.
  • Control waste through effective production planning and inventory management.
Inventory & Ordering
  • Order products, ingredients, packaging, and supplies.
  • Maintain appropriate inventory levels while minimizing excess stock.
  • Conduct inventory counts as required.
  • Monitor product quality and vendor performance.
Scheduling & Labor
  • Prepare labor schedules that balance customer service with payroll efficiency.
  • Monitor attendance and approve time records.
  • Ensure proper staffing during peak business periods.
Equipment & Facility
  • Maintain department equipment in safe operating condition.
  • Report maintenance issues promptly.
  • Ensure the department remains clean, organized, and professional at all times.
QualificationsRequired
  • Minimum of three (3) years of supermarket deli and/or bakery management experience.
  • Previous management experience in a traditional supermarket or grocery store is required.
  • Demonstrated experience leading, coaching, and developing employees.
  • Strong knowledge of scratch-made food production and fresh food operations.
  • Experience managing sales, gross profit, labor, shrink, inventory, and ordering.
  • Thorough knowledge of food safety regulations, sanitation standards, and HACCP principles.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform the physical requirements of the position.
Preferred
  • Experience managing both deli and bakery departments.
  • Experience with catering and custom bakery production.
  • ServSafe Manager Certification (or ability to obtain upon hire).
  • Experience in a high-volume supermarket fresh foods department.
