Job description

Meta seeks an experienced professional to support the company’s state public policy and government relations efforts. Candidates will be be responsible for political engagement and issue advocacy with a strong understanding of technology policy. This position will report to the Public Policy Director, South/Southeast United States. The position is based in DC, Austin, Texas or remote in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana area, but will entail travel to various states. Frequent travel is required.
Public Policy Manager Responsibilities:
  • Identify, monitor and analyze state legislative proposals that impact Meta
  • Represent and communicate our policy positions to members of state legislatures and Administrations
  • Monitor political environment and identify opportunities to advance policies that benefit the company, the state, and local communities
  • Manage relationships with state policymakers
  • Provide support to the Director, Public Policy, South/Southeast U.S. with respect to policy work and operational needs within their larger region as needed
  • Develop strategies for engagement with chambers of commerce, industry associations, non-profits, and civil society groups to advance priorities in region
  • Travel up to 50% of the time (primarily in the region)

Minimum Qualifications:
  • 8+ years of experience in public policy, advocacy, or government affairs
  • Bachelor's degree in political science, business/strategy, economics, legal, communications, public Relations, or a related field
  • Understanding of state political process, policymakers, and stakeholders in region
  • Demonstrated experience creating and implementing advocacy campaigns directly relevant to state government, including achieving short and long term milestones related to advancing policy, political and/or advocacy goals
  • Creative problem-solving, negotiation, and multi-tasking skills in time-sensitive settings
  • Experience communicating nuanced concepts to a wide array of audiences
  • Experience working cross-functionally

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proven track record of building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, including policymakers, advocacy groups, and community leaders
  • Experience managing contract lobbyists and trade associations
  • Demonstrated understanding of various state legislative and regulatory processes
  • Proven communication and interpersonal skills, with the demonstrated experience to work effectively with wide-ranging stakeholders
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with the capacity to think strategically and develop effective solutions
  • Capacity to navigate complex organizational structures and build coalitions to achieve policy goals
  • Experience working on complex policy issues, such as technology, privacy, and economic development
  • Familiarity with Meta's products and services, as well as the company's policy priorities and values
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
