DOTD is seeking a Construction Engineer to support transportation projects and programs through construction project delivery, field engineering, construction documentation, contractor coordination, and review of work performed in accordance with DOTD standards and specifications.
This position supports the development, delivery, maintenance, or improvement of transportation infrastructure by applying engineering principles, conducting technical analysis, coordinating projects, and conducting compliance-related reviews.
No prior engineering experience is required - training is provided, with opportunities for career progression and advancement through the Engineering job series.
Positions are located in New Orleans, and reports to the Engineer 6.

Eligibility for a Louisiana Engineer Intern Certificate.
NOTE:
This is a temporary position to be utilized while the incumbent is securing a Louisiana Engineer Intern certificate. Permanent status shall be denied to incumbents occupying this position.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
  • Performs engineering work related to construction project delivery, field engineering, or construction oversight.
  • Reviews plans, specifications, estimates, construction documentation, and project records.
  • Monitors or assists with review of contractor work for compliance with DOTD standards, specifications, and contract requirements.
  • Coordinates with contractors, project engineers, inspectors, consultants, and internal DOTD staff.
  • Reviews quantities, documentation, payments, work zone information, or project-related materials as assigned.
  • Supports construction certification, eConstruction, fabrication, field documentation, or final audit activities.
  • Assists with resolving construction-related issues, technical questions, or project delivery concerns.
  • Supports emergency or disaster response activities as needed.

Position-Specific Details:
Career Progression: This position is part of a Career Progression Group and may be filled as an Engineer Intern Applicant, Engineer Intern 1, or Engineer Intern 2.
Compensation:
Engineer Intern Applicant - $1,923.20 bi-weekly
Engineer Intern 1 - $ 2,115.20 bi-weekly
Engineer Intern 2 -$ 2,263.20 bi-weekly
Appointment Type: This position may be filled as a job appointment or probational appointment. A job appointment is a temporary appointment that may last up to 36 months. If filled as a job appointment, the position may be converted to a probational appointment in the future.
