Job description

At K&L Gates, we are looking for smart, imaginative and hard-working people with diverse backgrounds, experiences and ideas to join us. Perhaps our search for talented visionaries and your search for important and impactful work lead to the same place.
We are seeking an experienced Data Engineer with a strong focus on Microsoft Fabric to design, implement, and maintain enterprise data solutions. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience implementing Microsoft Fabric, including deep expertise in Fabric Data Factory, Dataflow Gen2, Notebooks, and Data Warehouse and Lakehouse design.
This role will collaborate with business units across Finance, HR, Client Growth, and other departments to deliver scalable, reliable, and business-aligned data products. The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to choose the right Fabric technology (Lakehouse vs. Warehouse) for each business scenario and apply modern data engineering practices within an Agile DevOps environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Engineering & Pipeline Development
  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines using Microsoft Fabric Data Factory for data ingestion, transformation, and orchestration.
  • Build Dataflow Gen2 processes to prepare and enrich data from multiple sources for analytical consumption.
  • Develop and manage Fabric Notebooks (Python, Spark, SQL) for advanced transformations and automation.
  • Deploy, monitor, and optimize data pipelines using CI/CD processes in Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
  • Implement robust data quality, validation, and monitoring processes.

2. Data Architecture & Modeling
  • Design and implement Data Warehouses and Lakehouses within Microsoft Fabric to meet analytical and operational needs.
  • Understand when to use Lakehouse vs. Warehouse based on data volume, structure, performance requirements, and business use cases.
  • Apply best practices for data modeling (star/snowflake schema, dimensional modeling, and semantic models).
  • Ensure alignment with enterprise architecture and data governance standards.

3. Analytics & Business Enablement
  • Develop Power BI semantic models and datasets using DAX and Power Query for reporting and self-service analytics.
  • Collaborate with BI and business teams to ensure data products meet stakeholder needs.
  • Optimize Power BI performance by tuning data models, queries, and refresh strategies.
  • Support advanced analytics, forecasting, and AI initiatives through well-structured and high-quality data sources.

4. DevOps & Agile Delivery
  • Work within a DevOps Agile framework, participating in sprint planning, stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Use version control and continuous integration tools to manage and deploy data assets.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including software engineers, BI developers, and business analysts.
  • Create detailed technical documentation, reusable templates, and automated deployment scripts.

5. Cross-Departmental Collaboration
  • Partner with stakeholders in Finance, HR, Client Growth, Operations, and IT to understand business needs and deliver tailored data solutions.
  • Translate business requirements into technical specifications and implement scalable data solutions accordingly.
  • Promote best practices for data accessibility, quality, and governance across departments.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or 10 years of working experience in related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of hands-on experience implementing Microsoft Fabric (Data Factory, Dataflow Gen2, Notebooks, Data Warehouse, Lakehouse).
  • Proven experience developing and deploying Fabric Data Factory pipelines with CI/CD automation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Power BI, DAX, and Power Query (M language).
  • Expertise in SQL and Python for data transformations, query optimization, and automation.
  • Solid understanding of data architecture principles, including data modeling, schema design, and performance tuning.
  • Experience applying DevOps and Agile methodologies in data engineering projects.
  • Ability to choose the right Fabric tools (Lakehouse, Warehouse, Dataflows, Notebooks, Power BI) to solve specific business problems.
  • Familiarity with Data Mesh principles, including domain-oriented data ownership, federated governance, and self-service data platforms.
  • Proficient in implementing Medallion Architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) within Microsoft Fabric for scalable and maintainable data solutions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working across multiple business domains.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Microsoft certifications such as:
    • Microsoft Certified: Fabric Analytics Engineer Associate
    • Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate
  • Experience with GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps YAML pipelines for CI/CD automation.
  • Familiarity with data governance frameworks, metadata management, and security best practices.
  • Exposure to real-time analytics, event-driven architecture, or AI/ML data preparation.

Join our team to shape the future of data-driven decision-making with Microsoft Fabric.
Be part of an innovative organization where your technical expertise drives meaningful business outcomes.
Compensation Salary $111,000 - $209,000
