What is a Fab Bank?

A Fab Bank is a facility or department within a semiconductor fabrication plant (fab) that manages the storage and movement of silicon wafers and other materials used in chip manufacturing. It serves as an organized repository, ensuring that wafers are properly tracked, stored, and delivered to the appropriate process tools at the correct times. The Fab Bank plays a crucial role in maintaining production efficiency, minimizing contamination, and supporting the overall workflow in a semiconductor fab. Staff working in a Fab Bank often use specialized automated systems to handle materials safely and efficiently.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Fab Bank operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Fab Bank Operator, you need a solid understanding of semiconductor manufacturing processes, materials handling, and typically a high school diploma or associate degree in a technical field. Familiarity with Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), automated material handling equipment, and cleanroom procedures is often required. Strong attention to detail, problem-solving abilities, and effective teamwork are essential soft skills for this role. These skills are crucial to ensure the smooth, efficient, and error-free flow of materials within the fabrication facility, supporting overall production quality and yield.

What are some common challenges encountered when working in a Fab Bank role, and how can they be effectively managed?

Professionals in a Fab Bank role often face challenges such as managing inventory accuracy, coordinating the timely movement of wafers or materials, and maintaining clear communication with both production and engineering teams. To effectively handle these demands, it is essential to develop strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to quickly adapt to changing priorities. Collaborating proactively with cross-functional colleagues and leveraging inventory tracking systems can help ensure smooth operations and minimize errors.

Job description

We are looking for a Senior Analyst to join our Semiconductor Equity Research team, with a primary focus on Capital Equipment & Test. You will take ownership of the models, shape the industry views, and deliver the research that institutional investors rely on to make multi-billion dollar allocation decisions. This is a role for someone who wants their analysis to move markets, not just describe them.

Semiconductors sit at the center of nearly every major investment theme in the market today; AI infrastructure, the data center buildout, autonomous vehicles, advanced packaging, and the reshoring of chip manufacturing. This is a rare seat at the table: joining a top-ranked, high-visibility Equity Research franchise that covers the companies building the physical foundation of the AI economy.

Wedbush Securities is one of the largest securities firms and investment banks in the nation. We provide innovative financial solutions through our Wealth Management, Capital Markets, Futures and Advanced Clearing & Prime Services divisions. Headquartered in Los Angeles, California with over 100 offices and more than 80 correspondent offices, our commitment to providing relentless, customized service is the foundation of our consistent growth.

Whether you are a research or banking professional with an established track record covering semi-cap equipment and test, or a semiconductor industry veteran ready to trade the fab floor or product roadmap for the trading floor, this role offers a genuine path to becoming a name institutional investors trust with real ownership from day one.

Why Wedbush

  • Analyze the semiconductor and hardware companies driving AI, optical hardware, cloud computing, mobile innovation, and next-generation technologies
  • Work with seasoned professionals who are recognized thought leaders in technology research
  • Gain visibility with institutional investors and corporate management teams
  • Build on your expertise in one of the market's most dynamic and influential sectors
  • Contribute research that moves markets and shapes investment decisions

What You Will Do

As a senior contributor to our semiconductors/hardware research team, you will own critical analysis that shapes institutional investment strategies:

  • Own and maintain detailed earnings and valuation models across the capital equipment and test universe, including wafer fab equipment, assembly/packaging equipment, and automated test equipment
  • Analyze industry trends: capacity, pricing, end-demand cycles, technology transitions (e.g., EUV, advanced packaging, AI-driven test intensity), and translate them into differentiated, actionable investment conclusions
  • Produce weekly and monthly written research publications read by institutional investors and internal trading desks, with direct authorship and accountability for the views published
  • Develop marketing materials and represent the team's views directly to clients and institutional salespeople
  • Build and maintain direct relationships with company management teams and industry contacts, giving you an insider's view of the sector
  • Directly communicate stock views and industry themes to institutional investors, trading desks, and other internal constituencies, with full visibility and ownership commensurate with seniority
  • Mentor junior team members and contribute to the overall research process and coverage strategy
  • Perform other tasks and duties as required and assigned

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited university; advanced degree (MBA, MS) or CFA a plus
  • 5-10+ years of relevant industry experience, preferably in networking or optical hardware, with a demonstrated track record covering the sector from either the sell-side, buy-side, or industry
  • Deep understanding of the capital equipment and test landscape, along with an established network of customers, peers, and suppliers you can draw on to identify industry trends ahead of consensus
  • Active FINRA Series 86 and 87 licenses required
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, with experience publishing research and presenting directly to institutional audiences
  • High fluency in accounting and financial statement analysis
  • Superior financial modeling skills with demonstrated self-auditing discipline
  • Proven capacity to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
  • Self-starter who excels both independently and collaboratively, with the ability to own a coverage area and prioritize effectively with minimal direction
  • Solid work ethic, positive attitude, and genuine passion for technology and markets
