What is an F1 engineer?

F1 Engineers are specialized professionals who design, develop, and optimize the performance of Formula 1 cars. They work in various roles such as race engineers, performance engineers, and design engineers, collaborating closely with drivers and technical teams. Their responsibilities include analyzing data, improving car setups, and ensuring compliance with regulations to achieve maximum speed and reliability on the track. F1 Engineers play a crucial role in a team's success during both races and development phases.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an F1 engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a F1 Engineer, you need a deep understanding of mechanical or automotive engineering, advanced problem-solving abilities, and typically a relevant engineering degree. Familiarity with CAD software, telemetry systems, and simulation tools, as well as experience with rapid prototyping and data analysis platforms, is crucial. Excellent teamwork, communication, and the ability to perform under pressure distinguish top candidates in this high-stakes environment. These skills and qualities are vital to ensuring innovation, precision, and seamless collaboration in the fast-paced world of Formula 1 racing.

While both F1 Engineers and Race Engineers work within the motorsport industry, F1 Engineers focus on the technical development and testing of the car, whereas Race Engineers handle real-time race strategy and driver communication during events. Both roles require engineering expertise and are integral to a team's success in Formula 1 racing.

What are some common challenges F1 engineers face when working with race teams during a season?

F1 Engineers often encounter the challenge of adapting quickly to changing race conditions and regulations, which requires constant problem-solving and innovative thinking. They work in high-pressure environments where split-second decisions can impact race outcomes, and collaboration with drivers, mechanics, and other engineers is crucial. Additionally, balancing the need for performance improvements with strict technical regulations and tight deadlines can be demanding. These challenges make the role dynamic and rewarding for those who thrive in fast-paced, team-oriented settings.

Job description

Delinea is a pioneer in securing human and machine identities through intelligent, centralized authorization, empowering organizations to seamlessly govern their interactions across the modern enterprise. Leveraging AI-powered intelligence, Delineaโ€™s leading cloud-native Identity Security Platform applies context throughout the entire identity lifecycle โ€“ across cloud and traditional infrastructure, data, SaaS applications, and AI. It is the only platform that enables you to discover all identities โ€“ including workforce, IT administrator, developers, and machines โ€“ assign appropriate access levels, detect irregularities, and respond to threats in real-time. With deployment in weeks, not months, 90% fewer resources to manage than the nearest competitor, and a 99.995% uptime, Delinea delivers robust security and operational efficiency without compromise. Learn more about Delinea on Delinea.com, LinkedIn, X, and YouTube.

Join our passionate, global team at Delinea and help us make the world a safer and more secure place. Our success is driven by world-class product leadership, outstanding engineers, and strategic investment from TPG. We value diversity, innovation, and a culture of respect and fairness. If you're ready to push boundaries and challenge the status quo in security, we want to hear from you.

Apply today to help us achieve our mission.

Summary:

Securing AI comes down to controlling what AI agents can do at the moment they act, and the gateway is where that control happens. In this role you will add new AI security features to our access proxy product and help carry that capability into the Delinea Platform, first by connecting that product to the platform and proving the experience with real customers, then by moving those features natively into the platform without disrupting the customers already using them. This role will report directly into our Director of Engineering, Securing AI.

What You'll Do:
  • Build new AI security features into our access proxy product, the point where agent and user traffic is inspected and controlled.

  • Treat protocols such as Model Context Protocol (MCP) as enforcement boundaries, and build controls for agent-to-agent communication.

  • Connect that product to the Delinea Platform and prove the experience with design and paying customers on live capability.

  • Move those features into the Delinea Platform as the product matures, keeping customers running smoothly throughout the transition.

  • Enforce just-in-time access and policy decisions in the request path, drawing on the platform's identity and authorization building blocks.

  • Partner with product and with the teams building the platform's proxy and access engine.

What You'll Need:
  • Typically 8 or more years building production backend or networking systems.

  • Hands-on experience with proxies, gateways, API gateways, or other systems that sit in the request path and inspect or control traffic.

  • Strong skills in a modern backend language such as Go, C#, Java, or Rust.

  • Experience evolving a product across releases, including moving capabilities between systems without disrupting customers.

  • Ability to work complex problems with limited direction and make sound design trade-offs.

We'd Love to See:
  • Experience with secure access technologies such as privileged access management, zero trust network access, or SSH, RDP, and database proxying.

  • Familiarity with AI agents, Model Context Protocol, or LLM traffic.

  • Background in security or identity.

For this Job, Delinea is not considering candidates that need any type of US work authorization now or in the future. This includes, but is not limited to: F1-OPT, F1-CPT, H-1B, TN, L-1, J1, etc.

Why work at Delinea?

  • We're passionate problem-solvers helping the world's largest organizations protect what matters most: their human and machine identities.

  • We invest in people who are smart, self-motivated, and collaborative.

  • What we offer in return is meaningful work, a culture of innovation and great career progression.

At Delinea, our core values are STRONG and guide our behaviors and success:

  • Spirited - We bring energy and passion to everything we do

  • Trust - We act with integrity and deliver on our commitments

  • Respect - We listen, value different perspectives, and work as one team

  • Ownership - We take initiative and follow through

  • Nimble - We adapt quickly in a fast-changing environment

  • Global - We embrace diverse people and ideas to drive better outcomes

We believe weaving these core values into our day-to-day actions, and our process for hiring, evaluating, and promoting employees, helps us cultivate a work environment that embraces collaboration and camaraderie.

We take care of our employees. We offer competitive salaries, a meaningful bonus program, and excellent benefits, including healthcare insurance, as well as pension/retirement matching, comprehensive life insurance, an employee assistance program, time off plans, and paid company holidays.

Upon conditional offer of employment, candidates are required to complete comprehensive criminal background check, verification of education, and verification of employment, per employment policy. In addition, all publicly posted social media sites may be reviewed.
