Job description

Printpack Rigid is seeking a candidate to fill an Extrusion Technician position in our Williamsburg, VA Facility on night shift. This position will report to the Extrusion Supervisor and his/her key responsibility is to operate the Extrusion machine safely and efficiently, in accordance with specifications and quality standards, to convert plastic resin into rolls of plastic and ensure adequate materials are available for production.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Set up and/or operate equipment (Extruder, vacuum pumps, material blenders, heated equipment, mobile pallet jacks, hoists, micrometers, microscopes, vision systems, edge trim or calibrated scales).
  • Audit process parameters, documenting and ensuring correct inputs for product quality, per customer specifications.
  • Perform basic operator Preventative Maintenance (PM) to avoid shutdowns.
  • Recognize and respond to material handling issues (blender, scales, dryers, etc.)
  • Set dials and controls on machine to create products of correct size and thickness.
  • Inspect machines for quality verification and correct issues.
  • Identify machine issues and quickly resolve malfunctions to maintain production schedules.
  • Meet changing production needs by replacing screens, dies and inserts according to manufacturing specifications.

  • Weigh and mix pelletized or granular thermoplastic materials.
  • Maintain compliance with safe handling procedures to prevent accidents and spillage.
  • Read and follow production schematics to produce products in line with design and manufacturing standards.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
  • High School Diploma/GED or minimum of 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience operating heavy machinery or equipment.
  • Ability to obtain forklift certification.
  • Mechanically inclined.
  • Excellent time management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to wear required PPE (hearing protection, safety glasses, hairnet, uniforms, and steel-toed shoes)
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays (36/48 weekly shift), as needed.

Preferred:
  • Previous experience working with Statistical Process Control (SPC) charts.
  • Previous experience using industry standard tools (pneumatic and electrical)
  • Previous experience with Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite or Inventory Managing Software

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory duties.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Ability to lift up to 65 lbs.
  • Ability to stand or walk for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to perform the following: bending, lifting, repetitive motions, walking, and squatting.
