Job description

The Central Investigations team is dedicated to keeping users of the Meta technologies safe. We pride ourselves in helping prevent harm by applying deep subject matter expertise to identify and mitigate potential safety-related threats to keep Meta and its users more secure. Our team is seeking a highly motivated and experienced investigator who will have the opportunity to work on some of the most challenging, high-visibility risks the company faces and the opportunity to have a substantial impact.We are seeking an investigator with experience in understanding and mitigating issues around terrorism, violent extremism, and other related harm types. In addition to having a demonstrated investigative and analytical background, we are seeking an investigator who has experience with open source investigations and who is passionate about protecting people. The successful candidate will be able to assess and analyze large amounts of data in order to identify sources of potential threats and abuses, operate independently in a fast-paced environment, and proactively collaborate with teams across the company.
Investigations Analyst, Threats Responsibilities:
  • Investigate issues around terrorism and violent extremism and how they impact Meta, our products and our communities, with a focus on understanding how bad actors may try to utilize our family of apps and services
  • Investigate complex cases and conduct deep analysis of potential threats that may manifest on Meta technologies
  • Independently manage multiple analyses at once while effectively prioritizing time
  • Identify sources of abusive behavior, quickly and accurately assessing the credibility of potential threats in order to mitigate risk of harm
  • Work cross-functionally with other analytic and investigative teams across the company, including collaborating with Policy, Engineering, and Integrity partners
  • Gather, analyze, and synthesize relevant data to identify potential abuse
  • Work with graphic and sensitive content on a regular basis
  • Work independently to make sound, timely decisions during time-sensitive investigations with minimal supervision

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated communication skills
  • BA/BS degree in a relevant field, or equivalent
  • Analytical and investigative skills combined with knowledge to quickly assess large amounts of data in order to detect critical and credible information
  • Experience working with sensitive issues that include graphic violence, extremist content, a variety of religious and political views, and adult content
  • Experience and inclination to protect highly confidential information
  • Available for after-hours and weekend work
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • 8+ years of professional experience in investigations or analysis in law enforcement, security, risk, or safety domains
  • Subject matter knowledge on terror organizations and/or violent extremism actors, especially pertaining to various social media platforms, analytical tools, and online research tools

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience adhering to and implementing responsible, ethical AI practices (e.g., risk assessment, bias mitigation, quality and accuracy reviews)
  • Experience conducting open source investigations and/or investigations on behalf of a technology company
  • Experience working with a team spanning multiple locations/time zones
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate AI tools to optimize/redesign workflows and drive measurable impact (e.g., efficiency gains, quality improvements)
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Knowledge of data tools such as SQL, Python, or other data analytics programming coding languages and data visualization tools
  • Demonstrated ongoing AI skill development (e.g., prompt/context engineering, agent orchestration) and staying current with emerging AI technologies
  • Proficiency in languages other than English, as the role may involve reviewing content and investigating threats across global, non-English-speaking communities
