As a Structural Engineer - Level 2 or Level 3 located in Magna, UT, you'll be a linchpin in missions of paramount importance, defining the art of the possible from day one.

This position is responsible for aiding the development of composite rocket motor cases and associated hardware. Candidate will contribute to both major design and analytical efforts based on knowledge and experience.

This position will work a 9/80 schedule, with every other Friday off.

  • Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Support composite rocket motor case Production and Manufacturing operations by providing floor support with technical insight and justification
  • Perform closed form and finite element structural analysis to design flight hardware, disposition non-conformances, provide input for other teams, and provide technical information to customers. Siemens NX CAD software and ABAQUS/CAE are primary used programs.
  • Create engineering drawings and specifications to define design for hardware fabrication, write test plans, support fabrication efforts, oversee testing, analyze test data and revise designs based on results.
  • Use advanced in-house codes coupled with finite element analysis to create and analyze current and future rocket motor case products.
  • Perform 2D and 3D structural analysis for the design of flight hardware and test articles using Siemens NX CAD software and ABAQUS/CAE.
  • Learn and help maintain standard design processes.
  • Other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications for Level 2:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineer or associated discipline with 2 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 0 years of professional experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
  • Strong understanding of solid mechanics principles
  • Strong understand of classical mechanics principles
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a self-starter
  • Ability to communicate technical content thru email, phone, in-person and group settings
  • Ability to organize and catalog information and documentation

Basic Qualifications for Level 3:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineer or associated discipline with 5 years of professional experience - OR - Master's degree with 3 years of professional experience - OR - PhD with 1 year of professional experience.
  • Must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government Secret security clearance
  • Strong understanding of solid mechanics principles
  • Strong understand of classical mechanics principles
  • Strong problem-solving skills and a self-starter
  • Ability to communicate technical content thru email, phone, in-person and group settings
  • Ability to organize and catalog information and documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in mechanical engineering or associated discipline
  • Strong understanding of solid rocket motor system design, development, and manufacturing.
  • Understanding of composite laminate plate theory (CLT)
  • Structures design experience with composite and metallic materials.
  • Successful candidate must be able to pass a background check for the Federal Safe Explosives Act (SEA)

Primary Level Salary Range: $79,300.00 - $118,900.00Secondary Level Salary Range: $98,400.00 - $147,600.00The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
