Senior UX & Product Design Consultant (Part-Time Contract)

About Societ

Societ is a leading software company dedicated to empowering nonprofit organizations. Our integrated platform provides case management, donor management, fundraising, and financial processing solutions that help nonprofits focus on what matters most-their mission.

As we continue to grow our platform, we're looking for a senior product design professional who can help transform how we think about user experience across our product portfolio. This role goes beyond creating mockups or visual designs. We're looking for someone who can influence product thinking, challenge assumptions, advocate for users, and help establish a lasting culture of user-centered design throughout our organization.

The Opportunity

We're seeking a highly experienced UI/UX professional who can bring industry best practices, challenge our assumptions, and help us build software that is intuitive, efficient, and enjoyable to use.

Our product portfolio spans both modern cloud applications and mature enterprise software. This role offers the unique opportunity to influence the evolution of new products from their earliest stages while also improving the usability and consistency of long-established products used by thousands of nonprofit professionals.

This is more than a design role. We're looking for someone who can evaluate existing workflows, identify usability issues, establish UX standards, and work closely with our Product and Development teams to ensure user experience becomes a core part of how we build software.

Working approximately two days per week, you'll become a trusted advisor and partner to our product team.

What You'll Do

  • Help ensure our products not only function exceptionally well, but also present a modern, polished, and cohesive experience that reflects the quality of our platform and strengthens our position in the market.
  • Conduct comprehensive UX reviews of existing products and workflows
  • Identify friction points and recommend improvements based on established UX principles
  • Evaluate new features before development to ensure they are intuitive and user-friendly
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Developers, and stakeholders throughout the product development lifecycle
  • Create user flows, prototypes, and interactive designs where appropriate
  • Introduce UX methodologies and best practices into our product development process
  • Help establish design standards, interaction patterns, and usability guidelines
  • Recommend improvements to navigation, information architecture, accessibility, and overall product consistency
  • Partner with Product leadership to influence roadmap prioritization through a UX lens.
  • Help evaluate product decisions based on customer outcomes, usability, and market competitiveness.
  • Identify opportunities where improved experience creates strategic product differentiation in the market.
  • Help balance usability improvements against technical realities and product priorities.
  • Participate in design reviews and provide constructive feedback
  • Help embed UX thinking into planning, estimation, feature discovery, and product reviews.
  • Mentor developers and other stakeholders on user-centered design principles, helping build lasting UX capability across the organization.

What We're Looking For

We're looking for someone who has:

  • 8+ years of professional UI/UX design experience
  • Significant experience improving B2B SaaS products
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating complex software applications (not just marketing websites)
  • Expertise in user-centered design methodologiesStrong knowledge of interaction design, information architecture, and accessibility standards
  • Excellent communication and facilitation skills
  • Comfortable constructively challenging assumptions and advocating for user needs while balancing business objectives and technical realities.
  • Experience working with Agile product teams

Bonus Experience

  • CRM, ERP, case management, fundraising, or enterprise software
  • Experience modernizing or evolving established enterprise software products
  • Software serving nonprofit organizations
  • Design system creation and governance
  • UX research and usability testing
  • Accessibility (WCAG) expertise

Success in This Role

After six months, you will have:

  • Built strong relationships with Product and Development teams as a trusted design partner.
  • Identified high-impact usability improvements across both our legacy and modern platforms.
  • Introduced practical UX practices that are becoming part of our everyday product development process.
  • Helped establish a shared design language and interaction standards.
  • Increased confidence across the organization in making customer-centered product decisions.

Why This Opportunity?

This is an opportunity to make a lasting impact, not just on our products, but on how we build them.

You'll partner closely with Product and Development leadership to influence the user experience across a diverse product portfolio, from modern cloud applications to mature enterprise software. You'll help improve the experience of products relied upon by thousands of nonprofit professionals while shaping the UX direction of emerging products from their earliest stages.

We're looking for more than someone to create mockups or design standards. We want a trusted advisor who will champion the customer, challenge assumptions, raise the quality of our product experiences, and help build a culture where thoughtful, user-centered design is part of every product decision.
