The role is focused on the design, integration, and coordination of exhibits and other scenic, multimedia, and display elements within the architectural spaces where they will be installed. Special attention will be needed to effectively implement emerging technologies and non-traditional interfaces.
Essential Functions and Qualifications:
Contribute to all stages of design and project development. Project work and responsibilities extend from concept through to installation oversight and are completed in collaboration with other in-house designers, producers, production managers, writers, UI/UX designers, software developers, AV engineers, and fabricators, as well as external consultants, contractors, and vendors. Experience in concept, schematic, and detail design/design development is required. Experience in CD and CA phases is a strong plus.
Responsibilities:
  • Create site/building/gallery program diagrams, space use plans, detailed floor plans, elevations, AV integration plans, 3D models and fly-throughs, rendered visualizations, cost estimates, and other technical and design documentation as a means of developing and defining exhibits and other display elements within new and existing architectural envelopes
  • Collaborate with other departments within Ideum, sub-consultants, and contractors to coordinate technical, engineering, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, IT, wayfinding, and other requirements and synthesize these into inspiring designs and effective, efficient drawings and documentation that can be used for contracts or to create fabrication or installation drawings
  • Interface with Ideum clients, lead workshops or design discussions, and synthesize the client's needs and objectives into documentation and design

What you bring to the work:
  • Energy and enthusiasm
  • Design perspective and creative visioning talent
  • A love for interactive, immersive, interpretive public experiences
  • Relationship management skills
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and teambuilding
  • A drive to help a team achieve ambitious, best-in-class outcomes
  • Ability to synthesize information for a multidisciplinary team

Qualifications and Education:
  • A Bachelor's degree in Architecture or Industrial Design is preferred, but we also welcome candidates with equivalent work experience in exhibit production and architecture and a proven record of successfully designed and executed projects. Architectural registration is not required, but it is an excellent qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a similar capacity
  • Expertise in CAD rendering and detailing program(s). Revit or Bluebeam experience is a plus. Facility with Adobe creative suite is a plus, as is experience with Blender or Maya
  • Experience seeing an experience design project through from initial design through fabrication detailing and to installation oversight is required
  • Experience with museums, zoos, aquariums, science centers, or other interpretive public spaces is a plus

To be considered, applicants must:
  • Be willing and able to travel and work long and/or unusual hours as necessary to accommodate exhibit installation and external stakeholder meetings
  • Be available to work in-person at Ideum's offices in Corrales, New Mexico
