The Designer works in partnership with the Client Managers, Architects, Engineers, and CAD Technicians, and is responsible for producing high-quality construction documentation using CAD/BIM software of various types. The Designer consistently produces high-quality construction documentation in accordance with the project schedule and standards. They often mentor Designers and CAD/BIM Technicians on architectural design and technical software as well as construction assemblies and techniques in the built environment. With offices located in Metro Detroit and Tampa, we have the flexibility of in-office employment as well as the option for remote. Synopsis

The Designer works with the Project Managers, Architects, Engineers, and CAD Technicians, and is responsible for producing high quality construction documentation in accordance with the project schedule and standards.

The Designer will work as a part of a national team delivering a variety of services in the residential and commercial markets. They must have the ability to focus in a busy team environment utilizing strong time-management skills to successfully multi-task while producing work of high quality. They must possess and exhibit a positive, "can do" attitude even in high stress situations with an unwavering commitment to "world class customer service."


Basic Responsibilities

  • Prepare complex Architecture and Engineering construction drawings for residential and commercial projects utilizing AutoCAD Architecture, and/or REVIT.
  • Performs thorough self-review of work before submitting to supervisor.
  • Maintain regular communication with Project Management team regarding project status.
  • Consistently apply Fieldstone's Quality Control procedures and takes ownership of their work.
  • Maintain FAE standards for file and folder management (including submittals, RFIs and other project records both electronic and paper).
  • Comply with Fieldstone and client-specific standards (CAD, File Management, etc.).
  • Participate in occasional team meetings to help resolve project issues such as coordination, scheduling, and technical concerns.
  • Document time and expenses using Fieldstone's business management system.
  • Foster a culture of external and internal client service.

Architectural Practice Responsibilities

  • Adhere to ethical standards and codes of professional conduct.
  • Develop professional and leadership skills within firm.
  • Comply with laws and regulations governing the practice of architecture.

Programming & Analysis

  • Prepare diagrams illustrating spatial relationships and functional adjacencies as required.


Project Planning & Design

  • Assist in performing building code analysis.
  • Assist in coordination of building components and systems.
  • Prepare design alternatives for client review as required.

Project Development & Documentation

  • Communicate design ideas to the internal project team as required.
  • Prepare submittals for regulatory approval.


Required Skills

  • Knowledge of residential and/or commercial construction techniques, construction documents, and CAD concepts. Knowledge of building codes.
  • CAD/BIM drafting skills required.
  • Knowledge of 3D Modeling software is a plus.
  • Knowledge of Photoshop, Illustrator, and/or InDesign graphic software is a plus.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Consistent ability to successfully meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.

Required Experience

  • Education: B.S. in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design or Construction related field or significant experience in a professional environment drafting residential and/or commercial construction documentation.
  • 2+ years of experience.
  • AutoCAD Architecture, Revit or Sapphire Build required.
