Job description

Description:

This position is responsible for the instruction and supervision of students in the School of Health & Sciences.

This position requires the integration of faith and learning with a biblical worldview. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in pedagogy and planning and have expertise in the supervision of educational practitioners. The successful candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively on individual and school goals. Evidence of commitment to the integration of Christian faith and living with the theory and practice of education is expected. A personal and vital Christian faith is required; a connection to The Wesleyan Church or one of the many denominations comprising the historic Wesleyan-Armenian tradition is preferred.

Supervision Given or Received:

Work is performed under the general supervision of the Dean of the School of Health & Sciences and ultimately reports to the Office of the Provost.

Position Summary:

This full-time faculty position involves teaching undergraduate and graduate level courses, contributing to program development, and engaging in scholarly activities aligned with the OKWU mission.

As part of our vision for academic growth, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in designing and developing a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) program that reflects the integration of faith, academic rigor, and professional excellence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Protect and advance the mission and vision of OKWU;
  • Teach courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels in Exercise Science and Physical Therapy;
  • Supervise internships as necessary;
  • Collaborate with university members to recruit, retain, and refine students in the fields of Exercise Science and Physical Therapy;
  • Advise graduate and undergraduate Exercise Science and Physical Therapy students;
  • Attend professional development opportunities and university community service opportunities;
  • Represent the needs of the department by serving on committees;
  • Maintain office hours to engage with students and advisees;
  • Write curriculum and develop programs in Exercise Science and Physical Therapy;
  • Other duties assigned by the dean.

The standard teaching load is 24 credit hours of undergraduate courses per year.

Minimum Qualifications:

A doctoral degree (Ph.D., D.Sc., or Ed.D.) in Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Physical Therapy, or a closely related field. Candidates with a DPT and advanced credentials will also be considered.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in program development, particularly in designing or launching DPT programs.
  • Knowledge of CAPTE accreditation requirements.
  • Current licensure as a Physical Therapist (PT) in the U.S. or eligibility for licensure.
  • Experience mentoring students in clinical or research settings.
