Job Description

Anderson School District 3 is seeking an experienced and dedicated leader to serve as our Director of Maintenance within Operations. This individual will play a vital role in ensuring our schools and facilities remain safe, functional, and well‑maintained while leading a team committed to providing exceptional service in support of student learning and district operations.


Job Summary: The role of the Director of Maintenance is to lead and oversee the district's maintenance team while ensuring all district facilities, buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained in a safe, efficient, and operational manner. This position provides strategic leadership for maintenance operations, preventive maintenance programs, and capital improvement projects while fostering a culture of accountability, responsiveness, and exceptional service in support of the district's educational mission.


Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED

  • Five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in facilities maintenance, construction, building operations, or a closely related field.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of supervisory or management experience, preferred.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and general maintenance practices.

  • Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

  • Ability to successfully pass all required criminal background checks and pre‑employment screenings.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in facilities management, construction management, engineering, business administration, or a related field.

  • Experience in K12 school facilities, higher education, government, or other institutional settings.

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations, environmental and safety standards, and applicable building codes with a willingness to learn and stay updated.


Key Responsibilities

  • Plans, directs, and supervises the daily operations of the Maintenance Department to ensure district facilities are safe, functional, and well‑maintained.

  • Develops, implements, and evaluates preventive maintenance programs to maximize the life expectancy and efficiency of district buildings, grounds, and equipment.

  • Supervises, trains, evaluates, and provides leadership to maintenance personnel while promoting a culture of professionalism, accountability, and excellent customer service.

  • Coordinates maintenance, repair, renovation, and improvement projects to ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, on schedule, and within budget.

  • Establishes departmental priorities and responds appropriately to emergency maintenance situations, weather events, and other facility‑related emergencies.

  • Inspects district facilities to identify maintenance needs, safety concerns, code compliance issues, and opportunities for operational improvements.

  • Oversees the procurement of materials, equipment, supplies, and contracted services in accordance with district policies and applicable purchasing requirements.

  • Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local laws, regulations, safety standards, environmental requirements, and district policies.

  • Collaborates with school and district administrators to prioritize maintenance needs and provide responsive support for instructional and operational activities.

  • Maintains accurate records, work orders, inspections, inventories, maintenance schedules, and other departmental documentation.

  • Promotes safe work practices by ensuring employees receive appropriate training, maintain required certifications, and follow established safety procedures.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent, Deputy Superintendent, or designee.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 260 days.


JOB TYPE: Full‑time


SALARY: Based on Experience and the District Administrative Salary Schedule (Posted Online)


EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Deputy Superintendent.


FLSA STATUS: Exempt
