Primary Purpose
Responsible for developing and overseeing strategic and integrated communications plans and programs for Pepco/ DPL MD. Represents Director of Communications in their absence. Advises and counsels Pepco/ DPL MD leadership with respect to communications projects, strategies, and tactics. Ensure high quality, effective communications, including business and strategic planning for complex company initiatives and campaigns spanning capital infrastructure projects, complex regulatory and legislative initiatives, and further narrative efforts on affordability, sustainability, and customer-focused efforts. These projects entail oversight of integrated communication plans, which include aspects of internal/external communications, marketing, advertising and digital media. In addition, oversee all aspects of media relations strategy for Pepco/ DPL MD. Ensure alignment of work with Exelon vision and strategy and coordination within and across other Exelon utilities. Performs other duties as assigned by the Director of Communications and VP of Marketing & Communications, in support of other communications positions.
Primary Duties
• Lead the development and execution of integrated communications strategies and programs across Pepco/ DPL MD.
• Ensure high quality, effective communications, including business and strategic planning for complex company initiatives and campaigns spanning capital infrastructure projects, complex regulatory and legislative initiatives, and further narrative efforts on affordability, sustainability, and customer-focused efforts.
• Oversee media relations strategy for Pepco/ DPL MD, including responding to media inquiries, planning media events, and managing reputational risks within the media space.
• Periodically represent Director of Communications with Senior Business Unit/Corporate leadership.
• Ensure alignment of work with Exelon vision and strategy and coordination within and across other Exelon utilities.
• Manage vendor/agency relationships and budget in the development of collateral, and the execution of projects.
Job Scope
• Position reports directly to the Director of Communications
• Position activities are focused on integrated communications support, while participating in and supporting initiatives and projects developed by Pepco/ DPL MD and in coordination with objectives of Exelon.
• Involves proactive communication planning and plan execution, significant writing, editing and development of communications materials, and a high level of coordination with other communication functions within Corporate Communications.
• Requires strong media relations, writing, editing, and project management skills
• High level of organization, strategic thinking, and presentation required
• Required travel
Minimum Qualifications
• 4-year relevant degree and a minimum of 7 to 10 years' experience in strategic communications
• Proven, excellent communications skills - both written and interpersonal
• Strong analytical skills
• Excellent organizational and presentation skills
• Proven ability to be innovative and creative
• Ability to work autonomously and interface easily with senior business leaders and the local media
Preferred Qualifications
• Masters degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Advertising, or related field
• Prior people leadership experience
• Proven media relations expertise, public relations and crisis communications experience
• Energy business/industry knowledge.
• Bilingual/Spanish speaking candidates a plus
• In lieu of degree, 9-12 years of relevant experience.
