What is executive search?

Executive search is a specialized recruitment service that organizations use to find highly qualified candidates for senior-level and executive positions. Unlike traditional recruitment, executive search focuses on proactively identifying, approaching, and evaluating leaders who may not be actively seeking new opportunities. This process is often conducted by executive search firms or consultants, who use their networks, industry knowledge, and assessment skills to match top talent with critical organizational roles. The service is essential for filling roles that require specific leadership experience, discretion, and a strategic fit with company culture.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an executive search professional?

To thrive as an Executive Search professional, you need expertise in talent acquisition, strategic networking, and a strong understanding of specific industry sectors, often supported by a degree in business, human resources, or a related field. Familiarity with applicant tracking systems (ATS), CRM platforms, and tools like LinkedIn Recruiter is typically required. Excellent interpersonal skills, discretion, and persuasive communication set top performers apart in this role. These capabilities are crucial for identifying, attracting, and securing high-caliber executive talent while maintaining client trust and confidentiality.

How does an executive search professional typically collaborate with client organizations during a search assignment?

Executive Search professionals work closely with client organizations to understand their unique leadership needs, company culture, and strategic goals. This collaboration often involves regular meetings with key stakeholders, such as board members or senior executives, to refine the search criteria and discuss progress. Throughout the process, Executive Search professionals provide market insights, candidate assessments, and facilitate interviews, ensuring transparent communication and alignment. The partnership is consultative, with the search professional acting as both an advisor and a project manager to deliver the best possible leadership talent.

Job description

Guided Search Partners (GSP)

Guided Search Partners is an Executive Search firm built on Trust, Transparency, Specialization, and Long-term Relationships.

We connect high-performing professionals with organizations that value people, performance, and growthโ€”helping leaders find roles where they can make an impact and build meaningful careers.

About the Opportunity

Weโ€™re partnering with a well-established automotive manufacturing operation seeking a Plant Controller to step into a high-visibility onsite finance leadership role. This opening comes as the current Controller prepares to retire, creating a strong transition opportunity for someone who wants to make an immediate impact. This role is ideal for a handsโ€‘on manufacturing finance professional who enjoys being close to plant operations, partnering with leadership, and helping drive performance. Youโ€™ll join a stable facility with meaningful scale, strong plant leadership, and a clear need for a trusted financial voice onsite.

What Youโ€™ll Do
  • Lead all plant financial activities and serve as the key finance partner to onsite leadership.
  • Own month-end close, weekly forecasting, and the annual budgeting process.
  • Partner closely with the Plant GM to support decisionโ€‘making and improve financial performance.
  • Work crossโ€‘functionally with plant leaders, including Materials, to align financial goals with operational priorities.
  • Provide clear analysis, visibility, and insight that helps the plant stay on track and perform at a high level.
Who You Are

Youโ€™re a strong manufacturing finance professional who knows how to work in a plant environment and build credibility with operations leaders. Youโ€™re analytical, practical, and confident in a visible role where your insight supports both daily execution and longโ€‘term planning. You enjoy ownership, communicate clearly, and know how to balance detail with business perspective.

Preferred Experience & Attributes
  • Bachelorโ€™s degree required
  • 3โ€“5+ years of manufacturing finance experience
  • Prior Plant Controller or similar plant finance leadership experience
  • Strong financial reporting and analysis skills
  • Automotive industry experience, including sales and release process knowledge
  • Comfortable in an onsite, unionized manufacturing environment
Why This Role Matters

This is a critical role for the plant. Youโ€™ll be the onsite financial leader, partnering closely with operations while connecting into corporate finance. Your work will directly support plant performance, financial discipline, and leadership decisionโ€‘making. Itโ€™s also a timely opportunity. With an upcoming retirement, the right person can step in quickly, gain valuable transition overlap, and take ownership of a role that offers visibility, impact, and longโ€‘term value.

Reporting Structure
  • Reports to the Director of FP&A
  • Works closely with the Plant GM and plant leadership team
  • Collaborates across plant operations and corporate finance
