Job description

Join the team at The Equity Project (TEP) Charter School, featured in the New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and on 60 minutes for its revolutionary teacher salaries and its outstanding results.

Position Overview: The Equity Project Charter School is seeking a motivated and dependable individual to join TEP's in-house kitchen team, for its new Middle School campus: a newly constructed 60,000 square foot, state-of-the-art building, and home to 480 (5th grade through 8th grade) students. The Kitchen Porter (Dishwasher) will assist in maintaining the cleanliness of the kitchen including but not limited to, dishes, pots, utensils, equipment, and work areas, to ensure a sanitary and organized kitchen environment.  

Position Responsibilities:

  • Ensures the collection, cleaning, and sanitation of all used dishes and kitchen supplies
  • Keeps dish area orderly and in compliance with food safety standards
  • Supports the kitchen team in the food preparation for the school community
  • Removes trash and places it in designated containers
  • Supports with the unloading of equipment and food from deliveries
  • Supports the kitchen team to ensure work surfaces, floors, and walls are always clean and sanitized

Qualifications:

  • Previous dish washing or food service experience, preferred
  • A positive attitude and dependable work ethic
  • Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions
  • Ability to perform routine cleaning work
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must obtain clearance for employment from the State Educational Department based upon a fingerprint and criminal history background check

Accountability: The Kitchen Porter (Dishwasher) will report directly to TEP's Executive Chef and Director of Food Services.

Compensation: The Kitchen Porter (Dishwasher) earns a rate of $18 per hour, with benefits including medical, dental, vision insurance, 403b retirement plan, STD, LTD and Life Insurance. Weekly daytime shift hours vary between 35 to 40 hours per week.
