Executive Protection Director information

What is an executive protection director?

An Executive Protection Director is a security professional responsible for overseeing and managing the safety of high-profile individuals, such as executives, celebrities, or dignitaries. This role involves developing and implementing security strategies, coordinating protective operations, and leading teams that provide physical security and risk assessments. The director also collaborates with other security agencies and ensures that protective measures are up-to-date with current threats. Their work is crucial in preventing personal harm, kidnapping, or other security risks faced by their clients.

What are some common challenges faced by an executive protection director when managing a protection team across multiple locations?

An Executive Protection Director often faces the challenge of coordinating security protocols and team operations across various locations, which may have differing local laws, cultures, and risk profiles. Ensuring consistent communication, training, and adherence to company standards while adapting to local environments is essential. Directors must also manage logistical complexities, such as travel arrangements and real-time threat assessments, while maintaining confidentiality and safeguarding client privacy. Building strong relationships with local law enforcement and continually updating contingency plans are crucial for success in this multifaceted role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an executive protection director, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Executive Protection Director, you need extensive experience in security operations, risk assessment, and crisis management, often supported by a background in law enforcement or the military and relevant security certifications. Familiarity with advanced security systems, surveillance technology, and incident management software is typically required. Strong leadership, discretion, and excellent decision-making skills set outstanding candidates apart in this role. These skills and qualities are vital to ensure the safety of high-profile clients, manage teams effectively, and respond swiftly to emerging threats.

Job description

Opportunity

We are seeking an exceptional Executive Assistant to support the Group President of a global healthcare portfolio within a Public company.

This is not a traditional Executive Assistant role. We are looking for a highly capable executive partner who thrives in fast-moving, complex environments and enjoys operating at the center of an executive leadership team. The successful candidate will serve as an extension of the Group President-anticipating needs, managing priorities, orchestrating execution, and creating leverage across the organization.

The role supports a leader responsible for a global healthcare portfolio spanning software, medical technology, and services, with responsibility for multiple operating companies, executive leadership teams, customers, board-level interactions, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives.

This individual must possess exceptional judgment, discretion, organizational capability, and executive presence. Success will be measured not by how well calendars are managed, but by how effectively the Executive Business Partner enables the President to focus on the highest-value opportunities.

What You'll Do

Executive Prioritization & Time Management

  • Own an exceptionally complex calendar across multiple businesses, time zones, and executive stakeholders.
  • Actively prioritize competing demands, protecting time for strategic work, customers, talent, and long-term initiatives.
  • Anticipate conflicts before they occur and proactively resolve them.
  • Serve as the first line of defense on requests for the President's time.

Executive Operations

  • Prepare the President for internal and external meetings through concise briefing materials, logistics, and follow-up.
  • Coordinate leadership meetings, operating reviews, strategy sessions, offsites, customer visits, and executive travel.
  • Track commitments and ensure follow-through across multiple leadership teams.
  • Manage action items with thoughtful persistence while maintaining strong relationships.

Strategic Partnering

  • Understand business priorities well enough to distinguish urgent from important.
  • Help orchestrate major initiatives across the portfolio.
  • Coordinate cross-functional activities involving Finance, HR, Commercial, Product, Technology, Legal, Communications, and Corporate leadership.
  • Serve as a trusted sounding board on priorities and sequencing.

Communications

  • Draft and edit executive communications with minimal direction.
  • Coordinate executive presentations, talking points, and leadership meeting materials.
  • Ensure communications are timely, polished, and consistent with the President's leadership style.

Relationship Management

  • Build trusted relationships with senior executives, customers, Board members, executive assistants, and external partners.
  • Represent the President professionally while exercising sound judgment regarding access and priorities.
  • Maintain the highest level of confidentiality and discretion.

What Success Looks Like

Within the first year, the successful candidate will:

  • Become a trusted extension of the President.
  • Dramatically improve executive focus by protecting time for customers, strategy, talent, and growth.
  • Create smoother operating rhythms across multiple leadership teams.
  • Reduce administrative burden through anticipation rather than reaction.
  • Improve follow-through and accountability on key commitments.
  • Enable more proactive rather than reactive executive leadership.

Ideal Experience

We are looking for someone who has already operated at this level.

Preferred experience includes:

  • 7-15+ years supporting CEOs, Presidents, Group Presidents, or C-suite executives.
  • Experience within large, matrixed global organizations.
  • Healthcare, MedTech, Healthcare IT, Software, Life Sciences, or other highly regulated industries preferred.
  • Experience supporting executives responsible for multiple businesses or global organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities with minimal supervision.

Personal Characteristics

The ideal candidate will be:

  • Learning agility and doing what it takes - no excuses.
  • Exceptionally organized without becoming bureaucratic.
  • Calm under pressure.
  • Comfortable making decisions independently.
  • Highly proactive and anticipatory.
  • Curious about the business-not just the schedule.
  • Able to influence without formal authority.
  • Direct yet highly diplomatic.
  • Low ego, high ownership.
  • Comfortable pushing back when necessary to protect priorities.
  • Comfortable operating with ambiguity and changing priorities.
  • Known for impeccable integrity and discretion.

Skills

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication.
  • Excellent executive presence.
  • Strong project management capability.
  • Outstanding judgment.
  • Advanced calendar and travel management.
  • Strong PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Teams, and Microsoft 365 proficiency.
  • Ability to synthesize information quickly and produce executive-ready materials.
  • This role is built on judgment.
  • The right person will know when to say yes, when to say no, when to escalate, and when to solve a problem independently. They will naturally think two or three steps ahead, identify issues before they become problems, and create leverage for the organization through exceptional execution.
  • We are not looking for someone who simply manages logistics. We are looking for someone who helps an executive lead at a higher level.

What We Value Most

  • This role is built on judgment.
  • The right person will know when to say yes, when to say no, when to escalate, and when to solve a problem independently. They will naturally think two or three steps ahead, identify issues before they become problems, and create leverage for the organization through exceptional execution.
  • We are not looking for someone who simply manages logistics. We are looking for someone who helps an executive lead at a higher level.
