Position Summary:

The Assistant Controller supports the Controller in managing organizational workflows, improving efficiency, and driving cross-department execution through process improvement and AI-enabled automation.

Position Details:

  • Location: Northbrook, IL
  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday through Friday on-site.
  • Compensation: $90,000 - $110,000
Key Responsibilities
  • Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close activities, account reconciliations, audits, and financial controls to ensure accuracy and compliance.
  • Develop and maintain financial dashboards, KPI reporting, variance analyses, and executive summaries to support decision-making.
  • Identify and implement process improvements that increase efficiency, standardization, and scalability within accounting operations.
  • Assist with budgeting, forecasting, cash flow monitoring, and financial planning activities.
  • Lead or support accounting-related projects, system implementations, integrations, and process enhancements.
  • Develop and maintain accounting SOPs, documentation, and internal control procedures.
  • Serve as the operational partner to the Controller, providing analytical support and executing strategic initiatives.
AI & Automation Responsibilities
  • Implement automated account reconciliation, exception reporting, and financial close workflows to reduce manual effort.
  • Utilize AI tools to generate financial summaries, variance analyses, and executive-ready reporting packages.
  • Develop automated dashboard reporting for cash flow, budget performance, and financial KPIs.
  • Identify and deploy automation opportunities within accounts payable, accounts receivable, journal entries, and audit preparation processes.

Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably in healthcare or multi-site organizations.
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and internal controls.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel, financial systems, and reporting tools.
  • Demonstrated experience leading process improvement, automation, or accounting system enhancement initiatives.

AI Requirement:

  • Proven experience implementing process automation or AI-driven workflow improvements
  • Ability to design dashboards and data-driven operational systems
