Job Duties
The Virginia Department of Health Professions (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health care providers, enforcing standards governing their practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.
The Deputy Executive Director provides professional operational support to the Executive Director for the Board of Dentistry by managing and coordinating disciplinary processes and assisting the Executive Director on matters related to licensing processes, board policy, management and operations. Strong technical aptitude and computer skills, including accurate and efficient keyboarding and data entry skills are fundamental for successfully managing daily tasks and work flows in this role.
This position will not be eligible for telework until after a 6-month evaluation.
Minimum Qualifications
• Extensive knowledge and demonstration of the laws, regulations and procedures associated with the regulation of professional occupations and with adjudication of disciplinary cases.
• Considerable knowledge and demonstrated expertise in interpreting and applying Virginia's Administrative Process Act (APA) or the equivalent.
• Considerable skills in organizational management, situation analysis, data analysis and problem solving.
• Demonstrated computer and keyboarding skills and knowledge of Information Technology, MS Office Suite, G-Suite and other Google applications.
• Demonstrated ability to analyze patient treatment records, billing and insurance records, as well as, legal documents and technical material to make case management decisions to guide staff and to provide staff support in administrative proceedings.
• Knowledge of and the ability to understand and comply with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA).
• Demonstrated ability and expertise in independently training, managing and supervising employees, including the ability to establish and evaluate performance goals.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing with senior management personnel and/or board members, as well as licensees and the public, including the ability to prepare official case documents and supplemental case reports.
