Job description

Position Title:
Department: Senior Landman

 ($187,000 - $250,000)Job Summary
The Senior Landman will be responsible for all facets of land functions related to the company’s oil and gas operations, primarily in Colorado. This role requires comprehensive knowledge of leasing, title, regulatory compliance, surface negotiations, and acquisition due diligence. The position plays a critical role in supporting a one to two rig drilling program and ensuring efficient, compliant development of the company’s assets. A strong understanding of Colorado-specific rules and procedures for drilling is essential. Direct experience in the DJ Basin is preferred, with demonstrated knowledge of basin-specific regulatory, operational, and landowner considerations.
Essential Functions
  • Serve as the primary liaison with mineral and surface landowners.
  • Negotiate, draft, and analyze a variety of mineral and surface agreements, including:
    • Mineral: Oil and Gas Leases, Joint Operating Agreements (JOAs), Leasehold Acquisition Agreements, Purchase and Sale Agreements.
    • Surface: Surface Damage Agreements, Surface Use Agreements, Easements, Rights-of-Way, Road Use Licenses, and Water Use/Transmission Agreements.
  • Coordinate with geologists, engineers, regulatory staff, and other departments to ensure alignment of land data and operational support.
  • Interpret lease rights and obligations, ensuring full compliance with contractual and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee all mineral and surface land functions for a multi-rig drilling program, maintaining proactive alignment with operational schedules.
  • Support community and stakeholder engagement efforts with landowners, local communities, and government agencies.
  • Participate in acquisition and divestiture due diligence and integration.

QUALIFICATIONS, Knowledge, skills, and Abilities
  • Experience working in the DJ Basin.
  • Strong knowledge of real property and contract law.
  • In-depth understanding of Colorado regulatory and permitting processes.
  • Advanced negotiation and analytical skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively in a collaborative team-oriented environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Land/Energy Management, Law, or related field.
  • 10 to 15 years of progressive experience in land functions within the oil and gas industry.
  • Active membership in professional associations (AAPL, DAPL).
  • Proficiency in land management software and mapping tools.
Supervisory Responsibilities
  • Oversight of field landmen, brokers, and contractors.
  • Provide direction, quality control, and performance feedback to third-party land professionals.
  • Preferred experience in supervising teams or managing external contractors.
