Description

SAIC is seeking a highly motivated Network Engineer to join our expanding, multi-disciplined team of professionals at our Identity and Data Sciences Laboratory (IDSL) in Upper Marlboro, MD. The selected individual will be an instrumental contributor to the configuration, maintenance, and overall life cycle of the facility’s on-premises enterprise class Windows and Linux based computing environments.  This networking infrastructure provides the foundation our team relies on to collect, store, and process data used to evaluate emerging hardware and software technologies designed to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and satisfaction of travel and trade processes used by our customers.  These technologies include biometric acquisition and data processing systems, artificial intelligence, counting and measuring instrumentation and recording systems, and high throughput people screening systems. 

  • Onsite 5 days a week *

Job Responsibilities:

  • Perform day-to-day operational administration of onsite multi-user computing systems including user management, audits, patches, upgrades, and backups.
  • Execute system security strategies, policies, and procedures in support of Approval to Operate (ATO) accreditations.
  • Coordinate, schedule and perform software installations of physical and virtual Windows and Linux operating systems, docker containers, HA clusters, and associated application software packages.
  • Evaluate existing network systems and software and recommend automation processes for routine administration and management.
  • Test, evaluate, and recommend next generation software applications and virtualized services for suitability of deployment on secure managed systems.
  • Ensure data/media recoverability by maintaining system backups and database archive schedules in accordance with industry best practices.
  • Assist in the management and maintenance of hardware infrastructure including servers, switches, routers, firewalls, and associated copper and fiber cabling.
  • Monitor IDSL network performance of data stores, servers, and databases troubleshooting and repairing issues as they arise and making recommendations for optimization strategies to improve usability, performance, and efficiency.
  • Examine and recommend network configuration options to enhance operating capabilities including public, community, private, and hybrid service delivery models while maintaining the required security posture.

Qualifications

Required:

  • BS and 2 years of experience (4 years experience in lieu of degree)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a public trust requiring U.S. Citizenship. 
  • Experience installing, configuring, securing, and managing current day server hardware, operating systems, and applications in both Linux and Windows environments.
  • Understands basic concepts and applications of container management platforms such as Kubernetes and Docker.  
  • Experience managing network security appliances and enterprise class switches.

  • Experience configuring and managing network workstations and laptops.

  • Possesses meticulous organizational skills with experience in administrative support documentation, log file analysis, system audits, and other record keeping practices.
  • Is willing to iterate and adapt system support requirements to changing needs and conditions.
  • Possesses strong writing skills and can clearly explain and document technical plans, findings, and recommendations.
  • Understands the proper communication techniques to effectively elicit requirements for a task.

Desired:

  • AZ-800/AZ-801, CCNA/CCNP, and/or CompTIA Network+ certification.
  • ISC2 CC, CEH, and/or CompTIA Security+ certification.
  • Operational experience with Windows server 2025, Hyper-V, ESXI, VMware vSphere, VCenter Server, Backup Exec, McAfee/Trellix Endpoint Security and/or Patch Manager.
  • Hands-on scripting/coding/CLI skills in one or more automation packages such as Ansible, Python, Perl, R, Ruby, Java, or .NET.
  • Demonstrated experience making administrative decisions based on information assurance standards, scalability, extensibility, supportability, and sustainability.

Target salary range: $80,001 - $120,000. The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position based on experience and other factors.
