Job description

Description:

The Estimator is responsible for determining project cost, project duration, and estimated project revenue. The Estimator will take into account such factors as: labor costs, material costs, equipment rentals, special software and hardware, project location, permitting, and licensing. The Estimator will collaborate frequently with the Director of Engineering & Estimating, Sales Team and Project Management Team to ensure the project meets all financial and regulatory guidelines.


Position Responsibilities- Essential

•Perform take-offs and quotes for customers and prospective clients.

•Work closely with customers to understand product/part specifications and respond to in-depth customer questions and inquiries.

•Apply knowledge of company operations, industry and math skills to yield calculations to determine labor hours, material and outside services necessary to produce quote from customer request.

•Provide accurate estimates in response to quotation requests from company accounts and influence their buying decisions.

•Attend site visits, pre-bids, meet with vendors as required.

•Update the Estimating & Engineering Coordinator with database system information to track projects with the Sales Team.

•Development and submission of Request for Information (RFI’s) documentation for clarification of customer project expectations.

•Respond to any inquiries from customers regarding quotations.

•Interact with customer and contractor personnel.

•Work jointly with other estimators involved with handling differing aspects of bids and quotes.

•Work independently and interface directly with executive level customers.

•Assure that an accurate bill-of-material will accompany each RFQ showing material quantity, description and part numbers when requested.

•Carefully review RFQ assumptions. Each quote should have specific and often different assumptions.

•Convey detailed information of essential aspects of projects to Project Managers and Field Technicians for project kick-off meetings and existing projects to assist in solving problems.

•Provide detailed RFQ scope of work (SOW). The SOW is provided for the customer to clearly understand proposal and for Project Managers and Technicians to understand installation process and specifications.

•Assist with any projects assigned by Director of Engineering & Estimating.

•Handle change in a controlled and efficient manner.

•Other duties as required and/or assigned.


Requirements:

Essential Skills and Experience

•Experience within the telecommunications Low Voltage Systems industry OR strong estimating experience

•Experience supporting executive level management.

•Must be detail oriented and have the ability to prioritize and multi-task.

•Strong communication skills including listening and speaking.

•Strong organizational skills to include but not limited to record keeping, time management and follow-up.

•Excellent attention to detail and sense of urgency, with an emphasis on quality of work.

•Experience with public utilities, federal, state, local governments and commercial installations.

•Ability to analyze and understand blueprints project drawings/plans, specifications and other documentation to prepare time, cost, material and labor estimates.

•Knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word and Outlook.



Beneficial Skills and Experience

•Extensive knowledge of Structured Cabling Horizontal & Backbone twisted pair copper voice / data, fiber optics and low voltage systems wiring.

•Extensive knowledge of Wireless Access, Access Controls & Surveillance Systems.

•Industry and manufacturer training certifications (BICSI training certification, CommScope, Leviton, Corning, Ortonics, Panduit etc.)

•Revue, Blue Beam software knowledge and skills
