Job description

SUMMARY

The Assistant Controller is a senior accounting leader responsible for the accuracy, timeliness, and presentation of financial reporting across a complex portfolio of food and beverage entities operating at Denver International Airport. The organization includes partnerships and limited liability companies with intercompany activity, shared services, and significant consolidation and elimination requirements.

This leader will direct and develop a professional accounting team, strengthen close and reporting disciplines, and serve as a key accounting leader in the company’s transition from Microsoft Dynamics GP to Sage Intacct. The successful candidate combines strong technical accounting judgment and ERP implementation experience with an approachable, accountable leadership style and the executive presence to prepare and present clear financial statements.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIESFinancial Reporting and Close
  • Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual close for multiple partnerships, LLCs, and related operating entities; establish a disciplined close calendar and ensure deadlines are consistently achieved.
  • Review account reconciliations, journal entries, accruals, estimates, and variance analyses; investigate unusual trends and require timely resolution of reconciling items.
  • Translate financial results into concise, decision-useful commentary and present results confidently to senior management and operating leaders.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, cash planning, lender or ownership reporting, special projects, and accounting-system initiatives as assigned.
Department Leadership
  • Serve as a key accounting leader for the organization’s 2026 transition from Microsoft Dynamics GP to Sage Intacct, including requirements definition, chart-of-accounts and entity design, data conversion, testing, reconciliations, controls, training, cutover, and post-implementation stabilization.
  • Lead, coach, and hold accountable a team of 14 Staff Accountants and 2 Senior Accountants; clarify ownership, balance workloads, provide timely feedback, and build succession and development plans.
  • Partner effectively with restaurant and airport operations while maintaining appropriate accounting controls and professional independence.
  • Coordinate with outside tax preparers on partnership and LLC filings, tax workpapers, ownership information, and related compliance requests.
Consolidation and Intercompany
  • Own consolidated and entity-level financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, cash flow reporting, and supporting schedules prepared in accordance with U.S. GAAP.
  • Review complex intercompany transactions, allocations, investments, and elimination entries; ensure balances reconcile and consolidation results are complete and supportable.
Technical Accounting Support
  • Assist with accounting research and application for new or complex transactions (e.g., leases, revenue recognition, debt, equity, business combinations, etc.).
  • Support preparation of accounting memos and documentation for significant accounting positions.
Audit, Compliance, and Controls
  • Serve as primary point of contact for external auditors during quarterly reviews and annual audits.
  • Coordinate annual financial statement audits and other independent reviews, including schedules, support, PBC requests, issue resolution, and implementation of recommendations.
  • Respond efficiently to audit requests.
  • Generate and maintain a system of internal controls documentation and control execution/testing (SOX or non-SOX as applicable).
Other
  • Performs other related duties as needed or assigned.
REQUIRED SKILLS/ABILITIES
  • Advanced proficiency in financial statement preparation, analysis, and presentation, with strong command of U.S. GAAP and period-end close controls.
  • Advanced Excel skills (e.g., pivot tables, lookups, index/match, structured references, etc.).
  • Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with acute attention to detail.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic/entrepreneurial environment, and effectively and positively manage multiple, changing priorities.
  • Ability to maintain the highest levels of professional decorum and confidentiality.
  • Ability to effectively collaborate with leadership and improve the bottom line.
  • Must successfully complete required airport security and background screening, including a federal background check.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting is required.
  • CPA is preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive accounting experience in public accounting and/or corporate reporting is required.
  • Minimum 5 years of successful people-leadership experience, including leadership of senior and professional accounting staff and a demonstrated ability to develop managers or team leaders, is required.
  • Experience reviewing complex balance-sheet reconciliations and supporting high-quality, audit-ready workpapers is required.
  • Experience with multi-entity consolidations and intercompany eliminations is required.
  • Experience with fixed assets, treasury and debt covenant reporting, and CIP and capital expenditures is required.
  • Experience coordinating partnership and LLC tax work with outside tax professionals is preferred.
  • Hospitality industry experience in restaurant/retail is preferred.
  • Experience participating in or leading an ERP implementation, including business-process design, data validation, user acceptance testing, cutover, and adoption within the accounting organization, is preferred.
  • Experience with ownership structures involving noncontrolling interests, partner capital, distributions, management fees, or shared-service allocations is preferred.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Normal office environment with standard lighting and average noise levels. Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer. Regular/repetitive use of hands and fingers to operate computer components (e.g., keyboard, mouse, etc.). Must be able to lift to 15 pounds, bend, reach, and squat.
