Description
The Controller is responsible for the leadership and oversight of the Company's accounting and financial reporting functions, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, and timeliness of all financial information. This position oversees general accounting operations, accounts payable, payroll accounting, revenue recognition, month-end and year-end close processes, financial statement preparation, internal controls, cash management, compliance, and Single Audit coordination (financial statements, grant expenditures and internal controls compliance).
The Controller partners closely with the Chief Financial Officer to support budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, lender reporting, and strategic decision-making. The role is accountable for maintaining compliance with GAAP, establishing scalable accounting processes, and producing accurate and meaningful financial reports for executive leadership, ownership, lenders, auditors, and other stakeholders.
Achievement of month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting deadlines is a critical responsibility of this position. The Controller must effectively communicate financial results, trends, risks, and opportunities through executive-level presentations, dashboards, and reporting packages that support informed business decisions.
As the organization continues to grow, the Controller will lead the development, standardization, and continuous improvement of the accounting function, while building a high-performing accounting team capable of supporting a multi-entity, multi-state behavioral healthcare organization with diverse revenue streams and increasing operational complexity. The goal is to build a department that is the best place to work and provides best in class support for operations and executive management.
Duties/Responsibilities
• Strong accrual accounting skills. Ability to convert accrual to cash utilizing cash flow statement in order to present to Executive Team, Bank and Owners.
• Oversee the preparation and issuance of monthly, quarterly, and annual GAAP-compliant financial statements and operations management reports.
• Prepare monthly reporting package that provides monthly results, explanation, key business metrics and required visuals to highlight performance. The package will be distributed to company leadership as deemed appropriate by CEO.
• Prepare financial result packages for the bank.
• Prepare year-end financial package for the CPA tax reporting.
• Maintain up to date financial policies, procedures and internal controls and reporting systems. Ensure legal and regulatory compliance for all accounting and financial reporting systems.
• Directly supervises accounting staff, including staff training, reviews, counseling, development, etc.
• Identify operational process improvements and bring directly to leadership for implementation.
• Monitor new in-network contracts.
• Monitor organizational liquidity and cash flow trends and provide recommendations for bank line and loan changes to executive leadership.
• Maintain banking relationships and support financing, borrowing, and treasury activities in coordination with the CFO.
• Establish departmental goals, performance expectations, and professional development plans for accounting staff.
• Drive Process Improvements for EOM closing leading to match or exceed mid-market close cycle timing
• Process Year End Close entries - W3 audit, Retained Earnings entry.
• Assists Accounting and Billing departments as needed.
• Evaluate and make recommendations on accounting software and implement changes if required.
• Partner with Operations to drive clear ROI decision making on staffing changes outside of budget cycles.

• Bachelor of Science in Accounting.
• 2-5 years of experience as a Controller, managing a staff of at least 3 or more accounting personnel.
• Experience in behavioral health is a plus and familiarity with to substance abuse industry preferred.
• Strong communication skills required and ability to communicate across different functions within the company.
• Strong presentation skills and ability to communicate to executive level and ownership.
• Experience with MS Office Suite.
• Experience with electronic medical records (experience with Kipu EMR a plus).
• MS Excel expert.
• Experience with QuickBooks.
• CPA preferred but not required.
Competencies
• Knowledge of software programs for personal computer use, especially word processing, email, spreadsheets and electronic medical records.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to carry out assigned projects to their completion.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships, gaining cooperation and resolving conflicts.

• Has completed all of the requirements above and is documented in application in training including the ability to pass background checks required by Company.
