Job description

Interim Chief Program Officer Location: Downtown Los Angeles, CA, Fully Onsite, 5 Days a Week Pay: $80-90/hour Type: Temporary (covering a medical leave) Overview: We are partnering with a well-known nonprofit organization in Downtown Los Angeles to find an experienced Interim Chief Program Officer to backfill their current CPO, who is out on medical leave. This is an executive-level opportunity for a seasoned nonprofit leader who can step in, get up to speed quickly, and provide steady, consistent leadership across a broad range of programs. Programs span early childhood and child development, sexual assault and domestic violence services, economic empowerment, and senior services.

The timeline is open-ended, and the right candidate must be comfortable with ambiguity. If the current CPO does not return, there is potential for this role to convert to a permanent direct hire. Key Responsibilities Provide executive-level leadership and oversight across all program areas in alignment with the organization's strategic plan Directly supervise Program Managers and Directors, including the Senior Program Administrator, Child Development Director, Economic Empowerment Director, Clinical Manager, and Director of Survivor Services Manage program budgets and ensure full utilization of grant funding across all programs Oversee grant compliance, reporting, and collaboration with Development and Finance teams Ensure licensing compliance and quality standards across all service areas including Child Development and Sexual Assault Response Report quarterly to the CEO and Board of Directors on program performance, financials, and staffing Hire, coach, and develop program staff and external consultants as needed Serve as a member of the Executive Leadership Team alongside the CEO and other C-suite leaders Ideal Candidate Consistent, even-keeled leader who shows up the same way every day, regardless of the circumstances Able to move fluidly across multiple and varied program areas without missing a beat Strong at setting expectations, holding teams accountable, and developing people Open to seeing things with fresh eyes and identifying opportunities for improvement Collaborative and personable, someone who builds trust quickly with staff and stakeholders Requirements Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree preferred Minimum 5 years of program leadership experience in a nonprofit or public agency setting Minimum 5 years of experience working with diverse communities and managing cross-functional teams In-depth knowledge of budget management and grant allocations required Government grant process experience required LCSW or LMFT highly preferred but not required Vaco by Highspring values a diverse workplace and strongly encourages women, people of color, LGBTQ+ individuals, people with disabilities, members of ethnic minorities, foreign-born residents, and veterans to apply.
