Job description

Chief Marketing Officer

Location: Fort Lauderdale, FL
Reports to CEO

Role Snapshot

Our client is a large, privately held, growth-oriented organization operating across multiple markets throughout the United States. The company delivers complex, high-value solutions through a highly operational, project-driven business model, serving sophisticated commercial and institutional clients. Its success is built on long-term relationships, technical expertise, execution, reputation, and the strength of its people.

The organization is seeking an accomplished Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) to set the enterprise direction for Marketing and Communications and shape how the company presents itself to clients, employees, partners, communities, and the broader marketplace.

Reporting directly to the CEO and serving as a key member of the senior executive leadership team, the CMO will translate enterprise strategy into a clear and compelling brand and communications agenda. This executive will lead a large, multidisciplinary Marketing and Communications organization and play a critical role in strengthening market presence, reputation, culture, and connectivity across the enterprise.

The successful candidate will understand how marketing operates within a complex B2B, relationship-driven organization where reputation, expertise, people, and successful execution are central to winning and retaining business. This is not a traditional consumer marketing role. The ideal leader will bring strategic depth, strong business acumen, intellectual curiosity, and the ability to understand complex operations and translate them into compelling market narratives.

About the Opportunity

This is a highly visible leadership opportunity within a substantial organization experiencing continued growth and evolution. The company operates across multiple geographies and markets, with teams working closely with clients, partners, and communities to deliver complex engagements with significant operational and financial scope.

The CMO will inherit an established Marketing and Communications function and will be responsible for guiding the organization through its next stage of maturity. The mandate extends well beyond traditional marketing. Brand reputation, executive communications, market positioning, corporate affairs, employee communications, community engagement, and organizational storytelling are all central to the role.

The CMO will serve as a strategic partner to the CEO and executive leadership team, connecting enterprise priorities to the broader organization and ensuring employees and external stakeholders understand where the company is going, what differentiates it, and why it matters.

Equally important will be the CMO's ability to lead people. This executive will create the structure, clarity, energy, and leadership environment that enables a sizable team of marketing and communications professionals to perform at their best while continuing to develop the organization's future leaders.

Key Responsibilities
  • Set the enterprise vision and strategy for Marketing and Communications in alignment with overall business and growth priorities.
  • Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and executive leadership team on brand, reputation, communications, market positioning, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Develop marketing strategies appropriate for a complex, relationship-driven B2B environment in which credibility, expertise, reputation, and demonstrated capabilities influence client decisions.
  • Translate complex business strategies, technical capabilities, market dynamics, and organizational strengths into clear and compelling narratives.
  • Partner with business leaders to understand market opportunities, client needs, competitive dynamics, and growth priorities.
  • Balance long-term enterprise brand building with the near-term needs of individual markets and business units.
  • Serve as a critical bridge between executive leadership and the broader organization, ensuring consistent communication and alignment around strategic priorities.
  • Shape executive messaging and storytelling for employees, clients, partners, community stakeholders, and other key audiences.
  • Own the enterprise brand strategy and ensure consistency across internal and external channels.
  • Strengthen corporate reputation and long-term brand trust in markets where relationships and track record are critical differentiators.
  • Elevate the organization's culture, people, expertise, and capabilities through authentic and compelling storytelling.
  • Oversee corporate communications, public relations, media relations, creative services, digital marketing, web, social media, events, market intelligence, and other brand channels.
  • Lead and develop a large, multidisciplinary Marketing and Communications organization.
  • Evaluate and evolve organizational structure, capabilities, processes, and leadership as the company continues to grow.
  • Build a high-performing culture centered on collaboration, accountability, creativity, trust, and professional development.
  • Develop senior marketing and communications leaders and create a strong succession and talent pipeline.
  • Oversee external stakeholder engagement, including community relations and relevant public and government affairs.
  • Lead enterprise crisis communications and issues management, partnering with executive leadership to protect organizational reputation during complex or high-stakes situations.
  • Lead communications strategies supporting significant organizational change and transformation.
  • Oversee marketing budgets, agencies, vendors, technology platforms, and resource allocation.
  • Leverage data, analytics, market research, and competitive intelligence to continuously refine strategy and inform enterprise decision-making.
Qualifications
  • 10+ years of progressive senior leadership experience within Marketing, Communications, Brand, Corporate Affairs, or a related discipline, including significant executive-level responsibility.
  • Demonstrated success leading enterprise Marketing and Communications within a complex B2B, professional services, technical services, project-based, infrastructure-related, industrial, engineering, real estate, or similarly relationship-driven environment.
  • Experience in an organization where business is won through relationships, reputation, technical capability, demonstrated expertise, and successful execution rather than primarily through consumer marketing or transactional sales.
  • Experience leading and developing sizable, multidisciplinary teams through periods of significant organizational growth or transformation.
  • Proven ability to serve as a trusted strategic partner to a CEO and senior executive leadership team.
  • Strong business acumen and the ability to quickly understand complex operations, markets, client dynamics, and competitive environments.
  • Demonstrated success setting enterprise-level marketing and communications strategy across multiple markets, geographies, or business units.
  • Strong background in integrated communications, brand management, corporate reputation, and executive communications.
  • Demonstrated experience with crisis communications, issues management, and organizational change communications.
  • Experience overseeing public affairs, government relations, community engagement, or comparable external stakeholder functions preferred.
  • Strong understanding of digital platforms, CRM environments, marketing technology, analytics, and market intelligence.
  • Experience managing significant budgets, agency relationships, vendors, and external partners.
  • Exceptional executive storytelling and presentation capabilities, with the ability to take technically or operationally complex subject matter and translate it into a compelling strategic narrative.
Leadership Profile
  • Highly Collaborative: Builds bridges across functions, markets, and leadership teams and recognizes that influence is as important as authority.
  • Commercially Minded: Understands that Marketing must ultimately support business strategy, market position, client relationships, talent, and sustainable growth.
  • Strategic & Intellectually Curious: Will dive deeply into the business, develop subject-matter credibility, ask thoughtful questions, challenge assumptions, and identify opportunities others may overlook.
  • Credible: Builds trust with operational executives and teams through expertise, sound judgment, consistency, and follow-through.
  • Enterprise-Minded: Thinks beyond the Marketing function and understands how brand, communications, people, culture, reputation, client relationships, and business strategy intersect.
  • Empowering: Goes deep enough to understand and guide the work while trusting capable leaders and teams to determine how it gets done.
  • Engaging: Brings positive energy and creates an environment where people are motivated to perform at a high level.
  • Growth-Oriented: Comfortable operating in an evolving organization and building capabilities for what the business will need next.
  • Resilient: Maintains sound judgment, composure, and brand integrity during periods of pressure, ambiguity, or change.
