Job description

Summary

The Kids Excel child development program is designed to provide free, temporary childcare for the students of the Excel Center while the student is enrolled at the Excel Center or until long-term childcare is located. The child development center is available when students are studying on site or are in class and will serve children ages 7 weeks up to 12 years of age.

The Early Childhood Educator ensures the safe and caring management and instruction of all the children entrusted to Kids Excel. This includes monitoring children in the assigned classroom; serving snacks, and facilitating learning opportunities utilizing HighScope curriculum for the children while in their care. Additionally, the Classroom Lead ECE will keep parents informed of policies and procedures at the center and the development of the children in their care.

Education

  • High school diploma and/or G.E.D required
  • Continuing Education in Child Development, Early Childhood Education, or related field preferred

Qualifications

  • 1-year experience in a childcare setting preferred.
  • Course work/training in early childhood development preferred.
  • Child/infant CPR and first aid certified or willing to obtain.
  • Submit to required annual TB screen.
  • Has working knowledge of computer programs to perform clerical tasks: Microsoft Outlook, Google Applications, Excel, Word and web browsers.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must possess excellent customer service skills.
  • Flexible, energetic, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to routinely multi-task.
  • Ability to resolve conflicts.
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test.
  • Must have reliable transportation.

Duties

  • Facilitates hands-on interactive learning experiences working with children directly.
  • Assists in the registration process of children.
  • Updates and ensures accuracy of student files.
  • Maintains regular communication with parents regarding services, enrollment, scheduling or routine changes, special events for the child(ren).
  • Assists in achieving of short- and long-term goals for Kids Excel.
  • Contributes ideas for the development and facilitates the execution of the curriculum and program activities.
  • Plans and carries weekly lesson plans for children.
  • Observes, documents and completes developmentally appropriate assessment with children.
  • Participates in regular team meetings.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Early Childhood Services and Lead Early Childhood Educator.
  • Responsible for a classroom of children.
  • Travel may be required at times.
