Excel Boat Company is hiring a Quality Control Technician for its plant in Union City, TN. 
We are the national premier boat-building company for the recreation industry. Our boats are built to last, and our fit and finish are first-class. Our specialty is bay, bass, walleye, salmon, duck hunting, and crappie fishing boats. 
 
Department Summary
Quality Control is responsible for maintaining the high quality of boats being shipped from Excel Boats.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Read bills of material, engineering prints, work orders, and sales orders.
  • Comprehend, identify, apply, and master the Aesthetics standard.
  • Perform water testing and conduct a final inspection of the boats.
  • Attend and subsequently lead training sessions in auditor training, 5S training, problem-solving, root cause analysis, and kaizen.
  • Coordinate quality/engineering sample builds.
  • Audit control plans, job instructions, and incoming inspection.
  • Facilitate a process change or Op Certification.
  • Coordinate a containment activity and supplier corrective action.
  • Write job instructions.
  • Calibrate measurement instruments and/or work with outside calibration companies.
  • Complete continuing education courses regularly.
  • Communicate with vendors on quality issues.
  • Communicate with customers on warranty and quality issues.

Required Skills
  • Use measuring instruments, such as calipers, angle gauges, and tape measures.
  • Exhibit trustworthiness and honesty.
  • Read a tape measure, understand fractions, simple math, addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
  • Capable of using hand tools and power tools.
  • Maintain connection and communication among other employees and management.
  • Conceptual skills, process improvement, verbal communication, functional and technical skills, controls and instrumentation, supply management, tooling coordination, inventory control, attention to detail, and judgment.
  • Recognize acceptable and unacceptable product quality, personal behavior, and productivity, and are capable of carrying out step-by-step instructions.  
Essential Functions 
  • Capable of performing each essential duty satisfactorily in a fast-paced industrial environment.
  • Capable of standing all day with no sitting down on the job; repetitive use of hands and arms; ability to walk, climb, balance, twist, turn, grasp, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. May need to work intermittently from a ladder.
  • Required to lift and/or move up to 75 pounds, or more collectively, frequently. Capable of lifting 50-75 pounds over the shoulder and outward often.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to work in a cold environment and a hot work environment. 
  • Great socialization and communication with management, other departments, and coworkers.
  • High school or GED graduate preferred.
