Familiarity with GIS software, remote sensing tools, and early warning platforms such as FEWS NET or EM-DAT is typically required. Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills set professionals apart in this role. These abilities are crucial for accurately predicting hazards, informing stakeholders, and facilitating timely response to mitigate risks.

What are EWS (Early Warning Systems)?

EWS, or Early Warning Systems, are processes and technologies designed to detect potential threats or risks early so that preventive actions can be taken. These systems are commonly used in areas like disaster management, finance, and health to monitor indicators and provide alerts about impending issues such as natural disasters, financial crises, or disease outbreaks. By providing timely information, EWS help organizations and communities prepare for and mitigate the impact of adverse events. The effectiveness of an EWS depends on accurate data collection, analysis, timely dissemination of information, and the ability to act on warnings.
