About the role
This role is 100% in office at least 5 days a week - no remote or hybrid work available. Candidates must live within driving distance of Newport News, VA.
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the design, analysis, integration, and documentation of electrical and avionics systems associated with aircraft modifications, installations, and certification programs.
This role develops electrical system architectures, wiring diagrams, installation data, and supporting engineering documentation to ensure aircraft systems are integrated safely and in compliance with regulatory and customer requirements. The Electrical Engineer works closely with Mechanical Engineering, Certification, Production, and external equipment vendors to ensure electrical installations are reliable, maintainable, and certifiable.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Design, analyze, and document aircraft electrical and avionics systems supporting modification, repair, and certification programs.
  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, cable assemblies, installation drawings, and associated engineering documentation.
  • Perform electrical load analyses and evaluate power distribution, circuit protection, grounding, bonding, and system integration requirements.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and industry best practices, including 14 CFR requirements and Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) guidance.
  • Integrate avionics, mission systems, communications equipment, sensors, antennas, and other aircraft electrical systems.
  • Coordinate with Mechanical Engineering, Certification, Production, Quality, vendors, and customers to support successful system integration and program execution.
  • Support development of certification artifacts, compliance documentation, test plans, and engineering reports required for regulatory approval.
  • Provide technical support during fabrication, installation, troubleshooting, testing, and aircraft modification activities.
  • Participate in engineering design reviews and provide technical recommendations regarding electrical system architecture, performance, reliability, and maintainability.
  • Maintain engineering data under configuration control and ensure work products comply with company standards and procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives, development of engineering standards, and implementation of lessons learned.

  • Five or more years of experience supporting aircraft modification, avionics integration, or aerospace electrical system design.
  • Experience supporting FAA certification activities, including STC programs, compliance documentation, test plans, test reports, and Instructions for Continued Airworthiness.
  • Familiarity with Electrical Wiring Interconnection System (EWIS) requirements and aircraft wiring installation best practices.
  • Experience performing electrical load analyses and supporting EMI/EMC, bonding, grounding, and system safety evaluations.
  • Experience developing engineering reports, installation instructions, test procedures, manuals, and certification support documents.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, aerospace quality systems, configuration control, and engineering release processes.
  • Experience with aircraft production, modification, installation, ground testing, or flight test support.
  • Familiarity with SolidWorks, 3D CAD data, or mechanical/electrical integration workflows.
  • Experience working directly with customers, DERs, FAA representatives, OEMs, or equipment vendors.
