Job description

Oak View Group (OVG) is the global leader in premium live entertainment infrastructure and services, with a platform spanning venue development and end-to-end capabilities across venue management, hospitality, and sponsorship sales. Founded in 2015, the company serves a collection of seven world-class owned venues and a client roster of the most iconic arenas, stadiums, convention centers, music festivals, performing arts centers, and cultural institutions, spanning four continents. 


The Event Manager will work cooperatively and collaboratively with all departments; the Event Manager will provide oversight and management of OVG guest services and security personnel. The Event Manager will coordinate all communication between the event and security staff and all required departments, create action plans, delegate assignments to the appropriate personnel, and be responsible for and ensure a safe and enjoyable overall customer and lessee guest experience. The Event Manager serves as a liaison between the facility and customers, tenants, and promoters, ensuring all requirements are met or exceeded, and ensures all facility rules, regulations, policies, and procedures are adhered to. This position is responsible for hiring, mentoring, retaining, supervising, training, disciplining, and/or terminating associated part-time Event and/or Security Services staff, including Event and/or Security Supervisors. There are times that it may be required to work extensive hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

This role pays an annual salary of $50,000-$65,000 CAD

The Tribute Communities Centre is Durham Region’s premier sports and live entertainment facility and is managed by Oak View Group. The Tribute Communities Centre is home to the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League, as well as the Oshawa FireWolves of the NLL, and hosts a myriad of events, including concerts, circuses, ice skating, graduations, and family shows.


  • Understand and work within the framework of all existing collective agreements as it relates to applicable staff.
  • Coordinate and communicate all relevant information for assigned events, including preparing staffing plans, event details sheets, and facilitating staff briefing notes.
  • Responsible for creating, implementing, and distributing shift availability sheets for event staff, as they pertain to the union agreement on a monthly basis. Ensuring that all details outlining staff expectations are clearly and concisely stated.
  • Preparation and distribution of staff schedules on a monthly basis, incorporating staff availability, as well as adhering to all event requirements outlined by the Director of Events and Ice Programming.
  • Oversee all staffing deployments on an event-by-event basis, including all timesheets and break sheets.
  • Oversee preparation of and input of payroll requirements for all Event Services and Security Personnel.
  • Review and update Event Services Manuals as required.
  • Prepare post-event and incident reports for all events coordinated.
  • Preparation and submission of expenses for event settlement, if applicable.
  • Track and monitor all event staff deployment activity, including shift deployment rotation.
  • Distribute and track all staff uniforms and work gear.
  • Oversee all Event Services equipment, maintaining the operation, condition, and security of all departmental assets—including but not limited to radios, scanners & hearing assist devices.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, adopting the Oakview Group customer service philosophy, and respond to all fan and staff inquiries in a timely and efficient manner.
  • Hire, train, supervise, and evaluate all event staff, including ushers, ticket takers, fan services, and supervisors.
  • Liaise between Canapham Medical and outsourced security, as well as the Durham Regional Police, as required based upon the event—provide them with all of the necessary equipment and information.
  • Conduct team briefings and training sessions as assigned.
  • Lead, direct, and inspire all event and security team members.
  • Perform regular inspections of all assigned and deployed positions, ensuring the safety of all fans and staff members at all times.
  • Write reports, ensuring the accuracy of reported data and proper presentation.
  • Maintain a secure and inviting environment throughout the Tribute Communities Centre at all times.
  • Act as ambassador for Oak View Group (OVG) and the City of Oshawa.
  • Support all departments with fan-related escalations as required.
  • Adhere to all Oak View Group (OVG) service standards and policies, including health and safety.
  • Work in compliance with the provisions of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Perform any additional tasks as assigned by management, including but not limited to working with AutoCAD and IATSE Local 58 in support of the Director of Events and Ice Programming.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

  • 3-5+ years of increasingly responsible experience in event management in a stadium, arena, convention center, or public assembly facility setting.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college/university with major coursework in facility management, hospitality management, business, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Supervisory/Management role within a unionized environment is considered an asset.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office applications, word processing, and the Internet.
  • Knowledge of operational characteristics of events.
  • Ability to identify the needs of users of the facility.
  • Knowledge of crowd management and control techniques.
  • Knowledge of customer service practices.
  • Knowledge of principles of supervision, scheduling, and training employees.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with facility use contracts.
  • Knowledge of fire and public safety regulations.
  • Knowledge of A/V equipment and electronic systems in public assembly facilities.
  • Experience with budget preparation and control.
  • Familiarity with terminology used in entertainment/convention/public assembly settings.
  • Have or be willing to obtain a valid security license and possess demonstrated knowledge of crowd management and crowd control techniques.
  • Always Have a “Lead by Example” philosophy and work with enthusiasm and professionalism.
  • Experience with AutoCAD is preferred but not required.
