Position Summary

The Event Manager position supports the planning and execution of assigned events at the Greensboro Complex and the Steven Tanger Center. In addition to managing a wide variety of events at the complex, the Event Manager position also serves as a multi-faceted event manager for producing all levels and types of events, including in-house and amphitheater events. Prepares event outlines and scaled drawings of event areas. Coordinates equipment and personnel service distribution and other functions and duties as required by the event. Serves as lead on-site contact with the event promoter from planning the event, move-in of the event to the facility, the actual event, and move-out of the event. As Manager of the event, supervises facility operations, including outside contractors and facility employees. Prepares and compiles and communicates lessee event expense information for use by the business department in financial settlement of the event.

This role will pay a yearly salary of $55,000 to $70,000.

About the Venue

The Greensboro Complex is a versatile multi-building facility that serves the community of Greensboro and its surrounding areas.  It hosts a wide array of events, such as athletic competitions, cultural arts showcases, concerts, theater performances, educational activities, fairs, exhibits, as well as public and private gatherings, including conventions, convocations, trade shows, and consumer shows. It plays a crucial role as a hub of community activities and significantly contributes to the regional economy.  The Complex is made up of nine venues, the largest being the renowned 22,000-seat First Horizon Coliseum, which has a storied history of hosting prestigious ACC and NCAA basketball championships, and a concert history featuring legendary artists like Paul McCartney, Garth Brooks, and Elvis Presley, as well as today's biggest artists like Drake, Bad Bunny, and Taylor Swift.  The Complex also includes the 167,000-square foot Special Events Center, encompassing three exhibition halls, a 4,500-seat mini-arena, and eight meeting rooms. Additionally, there's the White Oak Amphitheatre, Piedmont Hall, the Novant Health Fieldhouse, Greensboro Aquatic Center, The Terrace, ACC Hall of Champions, and the 3000 seat Odeon Theatre.  As one of the most actively booked facilities in the country, the Greensboro Complex annually hosts over 1,100 events. Its extraordinary flexibility and reputation have earned it worldwide acclaim among promoters, producers, event planners, and patrons alike.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as primary on-site contact with the promoter for events ranging in gross revenue to potentially in excess of $1M.
  • Act as primary on-site contact for the planning of the event, the move-in of the event into the facility, the actual event, and the move-out of the event.
  • Frequently adapt to all internal and external resources to often-changing scenarios.
  • Supervises facility operations, including outside contractors and facility employees, during the event.
  • Determines staffing requirements and reacts to changes brought on by security concerns, fluctuations in attendance, weather, and cancellations/late arrivals. 
  • Assumes a high level of financial/budgetary responsibility and is required to act quickly and make sound financial and practical/operational decisions regarding changes throughout the planning process and on the date of the event.
  • Develops detailed operational and financial plans and diagrams for the Published Event Document and distributes the same to facility personnel for implementation of contractual obligations and conditions prior to the event.
  • Oversees division staffing throughout the event and coordinates with resources to meet the fluctuating needs of tenants, performers, and promoters.
  • Coordinates with in-house and third-party security and food vendors to assure optimal patron satisfaction.
  • Coordinates event preparation with event prep supervisors, crew, and management.
  • Assists tenants in arranging for supportive services and represents facility management in resolving problems encountered by tenants and technical staff.
  • Monitors assigned event requirements as interfaced with other events and activities scheduled throughout the complex.
  • Exhibits working knowledge of all event-related and departmental procedures in order to facilitate proper coordination of activities.
  • Prepare and correlate lessee expense information in order to support Finance Department in financial pre-settlement and final settlement activity.
  • Exercise resource stewardship and report known or expected irregularities to the immediate manager/supervisor to ensure compliance with policies/procedures.
  • Perform all duties assigned as well as other related duties. 
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college/university.
  • 3-5 years of event management experience.
  • Knowledge of the functionality of sports and entertainment venues.
  • Basic knowledge of computers and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Knowledge of event management procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain working relationships with divisions within the facility, contracted vendors/services, and clientele, including high-profile touring promotion agencies.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills required.
  • Ability to maintain an excellent public image for the facility.
  • Maintains knowledge of current concert tours, conventions, and trade shows, including concert production trends.
  • Flexibility to work days, nights, weekends and holidays.
